Page 1 Dear Parents, OPEN NIGHT FOR PARENTS Staff at Golden Bay Primary School look forward to welcoming parents on our open afternoon/evening on Tuesday 20 September from 4:30—6:30pm. Your children will be able to share their class work with you and provide you with highlights of their school year to date. There will also be a display board outside the library showing our school Business Plan linked to some of our achievements in 2016. Please take this opportunity to speak with the School Executive Team and provide any feedback. Creating Communities and PEET will be in our school library on this evening to receive further feedback from you regarding the planned Foreshore Park. Their staff will have the new draft plans available, and activities for the children, to ensure that they get as much feedback as possible regarding the planning for our new Foreshore Park before progressing to the next step. PEET will also have copies of a glossy booklet that celebrates the work of Golden Bay Primary School students. Throughout this year the Botany Club students have worked in partnership with Craig from Coast Care to replant our dunes and propagate native seedlings. The booklet is a celebration of our partnership and work. Russell Newbound, Assistant Principal, and Sara Metalli, parent and Environmental Scientist, have worked with the children to grow deeper understandings and appreciation of our native vegetation. The P&C will have the barbeques fired up to provide you with a sausage sizzle and drink on the night. You might want to take time to picnic on the lawn and have a chat to other families. SCHOOL MUSICAL I’m pleased to let you know that the DVDs of Kids in Space will be available for collection from the Administration Office from Tuesday 13 September. READING—PARENTS AS READING COACHES Kathryn Bean, teacher, has been coaching staff in the MACQLIT and MINILIT programs. These programs are specifically designed to support young readers improve their reading skills by using some explicitly taught skills. We are currently using the MACQLIT program to work with students in years two, three and four. Next term we will begin our early intervention work with students in Pre-primary and year one. Alyssa Marsh, teacher, will now be joining forces with Kathryn and her team to provide opportunities for parents. It is our intention to invite parents to share in this vital reading intervention strategy. The aim is to provide our parents (and grandparents) with the key language and skills that support kids with reading. This readiness will prepare them to join our team and provide side by side daily reading with the children. This will further support them following their explicit daily instruction lesson from staff. Parents will be invited to join staff in learning about MACQ and MINILIT strategies in term four. I look forward to welcoming parents to work with us in this capacity to support the program. SCHOOL BOARD The next meeting of the School Board is on Tuesday 13 September at 6pm. Mandurah to support our school. Bottle tops placed in the jar will

help raise valuable funds for school projects. A great opportunity

to benefit our school when visiting the Mandurah foreshore.

IMMUNISATION

It is a requirement by the Education Department to receive all immunisation records

from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) print out. This can be obtained by calling

1800653809. If your child’s immunisations are not recorded on ACIR it may affect your family

payments.

An immunisation provider will assist children not up–to-date or vaccinated overseas to receive

the correct scheduled vaccinations and have their records put on ACIR.

The nurses at the immunisation clinic at Kwinana Community Health 94192266 can also provide this

service.

Please ring and book an appointment.

Who makes a difference at your school?

As part of the WA Education Awards, parents and students have the opportunity to tell us who makes a difference in their school. Parents and students can vote for their favourite teacher, principal or support staff member.

All staff who receive a vote will be acknowledged in The West Australian on World Teachers’ Day on 28 October 2016.

Parents and students can vote now at thewest.com.au/competitions. Voting closes at 5.00pm on 23 September.

We greatly appreciate your support in helping to recognise the commitment and dedication of

our staff and the contribution they make to the lives of your children.

Castaways Sculpture Awards

The Castaways Primary Schools Competition is a category within the main Castaways Sculpture

Awards exhibition held annually by The City of Rockingham at the Rockingham Foreshore. This year

Golden Bay will present an entry that highlights the importance of placing rubbish in bins and the

impact litter has on our environment, coastline and wildlife.

The inspiration for the design „Sweet Mistake‟ came from an experience earlier in the year when

students from I.E.—Year 1 noticed a seagull in the playground with a plastic ring stuck around its

neck. The students were concerned about the seagull and wanted to help. Collectively they produced

posters to remind others of the importance of placing rubbish in the bin. Miss Marsh‟s Year 1 class

will work with Mrs Green to create the sculpture.

All sculptures can be viewed at the Rockingham Foreshore from Saturday 21 October to Sunday 30

October 2016.

Program Update

Dear Parents and Children.

We are happy to announce the Assessment and Rating period is over, and we did a brilliant job. Our centre is very proud of how we all

did through this period and I would like to say a big thanks to our OSHClub community for your help and support.

Just a reminder or some information for new attendees, if you have to make a last minute booking, it is best to call or message the

centre phone on 0408 757 425. Between school hours, sometimes, the phone will not be in operation.

A reminder that enrolling you child or children in OSHCLUB is easy and free. All you need to do is complete an enrolment form on line

at www.OSHCLUB.com.au where you will have the option of booking as either permanent or casual user. I believe this to be beneficial

for all families as once your child is enrolled you then have the comfort of knowing the program is available to you anytime should any

unforeseen circumstance arise. It also gives you the assurance that your child or children will be cared for in safe, warm and friendly

environment. Please drop in and say Hello in Teaching Block 4 Opening hours are 6.45am to 9.00am and 2.15pm to 6pm.

We are still updating our records and enrolments so there may be some forms that we need to update and have parents sign over the

next few weeks.

Our lost property box is still overflowing, so if your child is missing a hat or jacket feel free to pop into Block 4 and have a look through

if your child is missing an item.

RECYCLABLES WANTED

These items can include egg cartons, boxes, bottles, jars, newspaper etc.

USED TOYS, PUZZLES & GAMES WANTED

Anything from board games, large or small puzzles to construction toys and blocks. Even old dress-up or items to add to our home
