80th BIRTHDAY OF NIKOLAI SERGEEVICH GODZIEV

April 8, 1975 marked the 80th birthday of Honored Engineer of the Georgian SSR, Candidate of Technical Sciences Nikoali Sergeevich Godziev. He began work in 1914 as an assistant engineer on the Transcausian raft- road, where later (between 1924 and 1929) he worked as senior technician. After completing the Georgian Polytechnic Institute in 1981 he began work in the Transcaucaslan Construction Association. In 1951, N. S. Godziev de- fended his candidate's dissertation on properties of lightweight concrete. After transferring to the Institute of Industrial Safety of the All-Union Cen- tral Trade Union Council (VTsSPS), he specialized in problems of industrial safety and hygiene in the construction industry. For participation in the de- velopment of a dust catcher he was awarded a certificate of the VTsSPS. Since 1957, he has been working in the A. V. Vinter Tbilisi Scientific-Re- search Institute of Structures and Water Power Engineering (presently the Georgian Scientific Research Institute of Power Engineering and Hydraulic Construction) as sclentifc secretary.

Since the day of founding the scientific-technical society of builders of Georgia (1934) N. S. Godziev has been one of the organizers of this

society and for 25 years has conducted fruitful and quite diverse activities, occupying leading posts in the society. For this work he has been awarded many certificates of the VTsSPS, All-Union Council of Scientific-Technical Societies, and diploma of the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR. Worthy of attention is his great work in or- ganizing out-of-town scientific-technical sessions, conferences, and meetings, including the First Transcaucasian Conference on light-weight concrete and reinforced concrete (1986). He participates actively in periodicals, in- cluding "Gidrotekhnicheskoe Stroitel'sfvo = with respect %o various problems. He has been awarded many medals and was conferred the title Honored Engineer of the Georgian SSR. Marking the 80th birthday of Nikoiai Sergeevich Godziev, the hydraulic engineering community and the editorial borad of the jot~nal "Gidrotekhnicheskoe Stroitel'- sfvo" warmly congratulate the celebrant and wish him good health and successful continuation of his creative activities.
