Vice Chancellor Entertains Traditional Rulers The Vice Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis, has organized a social gathering for traditional rulers and chiefs at the V.C’s Lounge. The event which took place on 16th December, 2015 was to strengthen the friendship between KNUST and the traditional leaders of the neighbouring communities and to extend its relationship to the outside communities.

Professor Ellis thanked the traditional leaders - chiefs and queen mothers - from Takoradi, Kumasi, and Sunyani for being present on such a great occasion and announced that it had been a great honour to dine with the chiefs every year.

He announced that this year’s celebration marked the last time he would stand before them as the Vice Chancellor. He was certain that the ceremony which he initiated would continue.

He was happy about the improvement in the quality of the road network in the surrounding communities achieved through the advocacy of the university. He affirmed that in order to build capacity, new programmes on chieftaincy and traditional studies – diploma and degree – would be introduced to help students to learn more about the chieftaincy institution and the development of their communities.

Mr. Napoleon de-Graft-Etsison, Head of Basic School/Head of Nursery School, expressed his appreciation for such a generous offer from UITS. He said it was a clear demonstration of the University’s commitment to academic excellence of the KNUST Basic Schools. He made a request to the Vice-Chancellor for a facility to house the computers.

FIRE PRECAUTIoN

Members of the University Community are duly informed by the Fire Prevention Unit that all indications point to the outbreak of major fires in the University during the HARMATTAN season; which is the weather we are currently experiencing.

Therefore, we are all advised to be extra vigilant at all times, both in the office and at home. Adopting the following precautionary measures would help prevent possible fire outbreaks:

1. Carry out routine inspection after work to make sure all air conditioning equipment, fans, photocopiers, computers and all office electrical and electronic equipment are switched off;

2. Switch off and unplug all electrical and electronic equipment when there is power failure;

3. Desist from burning dry leaves under trees; and

4. Stop burning refuse and/or dry leaves unattended.

If the need to burn any kind of waste arises, prior advice should be sought from the Fire Prevention Unit.
