Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy) April 12, 2015

Today we celebrate the Divine Mercy Sunday. Pope John Paul II established the Sunday after Easter as Di-vine Mercy Sunday. The Divine Mercy, of course, is the unconditional love of God seen from the point of view of the sinner. It is the fidelity of the love of God. This is the Good News of the Gospel. Receive the gifts and grace of Divine Mercy Sunday with thanksgiving, and then share them with others, so that they too may experience the fulfillment of their deepest desires of their hearts. Tell them to trust in Jesus even more! St. Faustina “the great apostle of Divine Mercy in our time” (John Paul II, Divine Mercy Sunday, April 10th, 1994) recorded the words of the Lord about His desire for the salvation of souls and His desire for our holi-ness: “How very much I desire the salvation of souls! My dearest secretary, write that I want to pour My Di-vine Life into human souls and to sanctify them if only they were willing to accept My grace. The greatest sin-ners would achieve great sanctity, if only they would Trust in My Mercy….” (Diary 1784). The readings from the Acts gives a picture of a Christian community of shared faith and shared possessions. In the Gospel of John: Jesus spears to his apostles showing them his wounds and bestowing peace on them. Then he entrusts his mission to them, giving them the gift of the Spirit and the power to forgive sin. Thomas’s profession of faith. “My Lord and my God, is the supreme Christological statement of John’s Gospel. Original-ly John’s Gospel ended where today’s passage ends. The second reading stresses the Christian vocation to love. Through faith in Jesus Christ, Christians have be-come children of God. They will show their love for God by keeping his commandments. And it they have God, they will surely love the commandments is not difficult because through baptism they share in Christ’s victory over the power of evil. La lectura de los Hechos de los Apóstoles da una imagen de una comunidad cristiana de fe compartida y po-sesiones compartidas. En el Evangelio de Juan: Jesús se aparece a sus apóstoles mostrándoles sus heridas y les ofrece la paz a ellos. Entonces él confía su misión a ellos, dándoles el don del Espíritu y el poder de perdonar los pecados. La Profesión de Fe de Thomas. "Mi Señor y mi Dios, es la afirmación cristológica suprema del Evangelio de Juan. Originalmente el Evangelio de Juan terminaba donde termina el pasaje de hoy. La segunda lectura subraya la vocación cristiana de amar. A través de la fe en Jesucristo, los cristianos han de ser hijos/as de Dios. Ellos mostrarán su amor por Dios guardando sus mandamientos. Y tienen a Dios, así guardar los mandamientos no es difícil porque a través del bautismo ellos comparten la victoria de Cristo so-bre el poder del mal.
