Second Sunday in Ordinary Time January 18, 2015

THE THEME TODAY IS GOD’S CALL We are to use our everyday actions and conversations to help attract others to Jesus. Through their witness of Jesus as the Messiah, John the Baptist and Saint Andrew are instru-mental to the world coming to know about Jesus and his mission on earth. By telling a friend or relative about Jesus, which is what these men did, we are continuing the work of evangeli-zation today. 1 Samuel 3:3b-10. 19. In today’s first reading, Eli teaches Samuel how to respond to God’s call, and Samuel learns well. 1 Corinthians 6:13c-15a. 17-20. The second reading teaches that our bodies are to be used by us to glorify God. John 1:35-42. In the Gospel, John the Baptist tells his followers that Jesus is the Messiah. The main theme of the readings is that of calling and response. The call of Peter is highlight-ed because of the important role he played in the first community. In the two reading, we are dealing with a unique and specific call, what is more commonly called a vocation. How do you and I respond to the call of the Lord in the ordinary and simple way we live?

EL TEMA DE HOY ES EL LLAMADO DE DIOS Debemos usar nuestras acciones diarias y conversaciones para ayudar a atraer a otros a Je-sús. A través de su testimonio de Jesús como el Mesías. Al decirle a un amigo o familiar sobre Jesús. ¿Qué es lo que hicieron estos hombres?, ¿estamos continuando este trabajo de evangelización hoy? 1 Samuel 3: 3b-10. 19. En la primera lectura de hoy. Elías enseña a Samuel cómo respon-der al llamado de Dios, y Samuel aprende bien. 1 Corintios 6: 13c-15a. 17-20. La segunda lectura nos enseña que nuestros cuerpos serán utilizados para dar mayor glorificar a Dios. Juan 1: 35-42. En el Evangelio. Juan el Bautista dice a sus seguidores que Jesús es el Me-sías. El tema principal de las lecturas es ese llamado y respuesta. El llamado de Pedro se destacó por el papel importante que jugó en la primera comunidad. En las dos lecturas se trata de una llamada única y específica, lo que más comúnmente se llama vocación. ¿Cómo usted y yo respondemos a la llamada del Señor en la vida ordinaria y simple que vivimos?
