be said that learning speaking must be
acquired by all students.
In fact, there are many students still
incompetent in speaking English. During
observation at MTSN Langsad Kadap Rao,
there are many problems related to learn
english in speaking. First, the students had
limited time to speak English in the classroom
due to the big number of the students. As a
consequence of that, the teacher got problem in
managing the class and tended to dominate the
teaching and learning activities. Therefore, thestudents only attended the teaching learning
process in the classroom. Second, the students
still had lack of vocabulary so they were
difficult to find words that they wanted to say.
It did not make them communicate well and
share what they had in mind into spoken form.
Moreover, the students did not practice and
apply what they have got in the classroom in
daily activity. The last is the students did not
have self-confidence to speak English in
classroom because they still had problem with
pronunciation, intonation, grammar and they
preferred to keep silent during the teaching and
learning process.
Related to the problem above, the writer
formulates the problem to the following
question, How to apply everyone is a teacher
here strategy in improving students speaking
skill at the tenth grade students of Senior High
School
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
A. Speaking
1. Nature of Speaking
Speaking is one of the important
skill in learning English, because it is very
useful to communicate directly. It can be used
to convey ideas or other purposes in having
relation in the world. There are some
definitions of speaking according to experts.
According to Cameron (2001:40),
speaking is the active of language to use
express the meaning in order to get theresponse from listener. It can be assumed that
speaking as the activity of a person to express
his or her ideas, feeling or something in her/his
mind to get response from other person by
spoken language.
Moreover, Nunan (2003:48) defines
that speaking is the productive aural/oral skill.
It can be said that oral is the process of
listening about someone talking and oral is the
process of giving respond to what is someone
talking. By speaking, the speaker can deliver
the message about a topic to the listener orally
and listener gives feedback. In other word,
speaking as social interaction which happens in
our believes.
2. Teaching Speaking
Teaching speaking is important in
language learning. In this case, the teacher
needs to encourage students participation by
making experience interesting and motivating,

and also the teacher should support the students
to practice English as a habit in order to make
their English speaking ability can use to
interact with other in daily life.
The aims of teaching speaking are to
enable students to communicate verbally in
daily life situation. According to Cameron
(2001:40), it is crucial for teacher to take the
responsibility for checking the students
understanding to language being used and the
purpose of the activities is being carried out. It
means that it is really important for the teacher
to make the students understand in learning.
The teachers have to consider that students
understand about the aim of learning process.
Therefore, the teachers must give the students
opportunity to provide input to all phases of
classroom activity.
Furthermore, Nunan (2003:48) states
that teaching speaking is sometimes considered
a simple process. Commercial language
schools arround the world hire people with no
training to teach conversation. Where is
speaking is totally natural, speaking in a
language other than our own is anything but
simple. Teaching speaking involves providing
students with the component of language, it is
hoped that they would eventually put them all
together and speak.
B. Everyone is a Teacher Here Strategy
1. Everyone is a Teacher Here Strategy
Everyone is a Teacher Here is a
strategy that can be used to teach speaking.According to Silberman (1996:113), Everyone
is a Teacher Here is an easy strastegy for
obtaining classwide participation and
individual accountability. It gives every student
the opportunity to act as a teacher for other
students. It points out everyone can provide
opprtunity to practice what they are learning,
and also opportunity for everybody to grow
and develop.
Moreover, Jackcanfield (2012:1) says
that Everyone is a Teacher Here is rarely a
surprise to learn that successfull people are
lifelong learners. It points out this thinking is
an strategy to get next level of ideation abouthow we live, learn and work.
In addition, Nuraida in Silberman
(2012:1) says that Everyone is a Teacher Here
is a strategy that students can get the material
or knowledge from their own friend by taking
turns explaining what they have read from a
book. It means that, the students can get more
knowledge, opini and ideas of others friend
explanation, so they can understand the
material of the book.

2. Procedure of Everyone is a Teacher
Here Strategy
There are some procedures that can
be followed by writer. Silberman
(1996:113) states that the procedure consist
of the following steps:
a. Handout an index card to each student.
Ask students to write down a question
they have about the learning material
being studied in the class (a reading
assigment) or a specific topic they
would like discussed in class. b. Collect the cards, shuffle them, and
distribute one to each student. Ask
students to read silently the question or
topic on their card and think of a
response.
c. Invite volunteers who are wiling to read
out loud the card they obtained and give
a response.
d. After a response is given, ask the others
in the class to add to what the volunteer
has contributed.
e. Continue as long as there are
volunteers.
Furthermore, Mark Weskott in
Narragansett Teachers (2004:1) states
that there are some procedure of
everyone is a teacher here strategy such
as:
a. Students are divided into groups. Each
group is assigned a concept or topic.
For example, for the study of the water
cycle, one group could be assigned
evaporation and another group could
be assigned condensation.
b. Once each group has prepared and
planned their topics, the teachers ware
regrouped with one person from each of
the other groups. In their new groups,
each student will be responsible for
teaching a concept to their peers.
c. Each group is given the challenge of
becoming not only an expert on theirrespective topics but also a teacher of
this topic.
d. As a group, they will discover the
important and key ideas about their
topic. Research materials, information,
and ideas for demonstrations may be
provided. The students must plan what
they will teach to the other students and
how they present the materials. This
phase can happen over a variety of time
frames depending on the content, grade
level.
DISCUSSION
a. Pre Teaching ActivitiesPre-teaching activity is the
activity which is done at the beginning of
the class. It is done in order to give the
students background knowledge and
build their self confidence. This activity

will give some new information,
stimulate couriousity, and also increase
the students concentration.
b. Whilst Teaching Activities
This activity is the activity to apply
everyone is ateacher here strategy.
There are some steps in whilst-
teaching activity. There are exploration,
elaboration and confirmation.
a. The teacher explains about the
narrative text and characteristic of
narrative text. b. The teacher give the students a
narrative text about a tiger.
c. The teacher hand out an index card
to each students and then asks the
students to write down a question in
the card based on the text being
studied in the class (a reading
assignment) or a spesific topic they
would like discussed in the class
based on the text
d. The teacher ask the students to
collect the cards, shuffle them, and
distribute one to each student. Ask
the students to read silently the
question on their card and think of a
response.
e. After the students response the
question, the teacher invites
volunteers who are willing to read
out loud the card they obtained and
give a response.
f. After a response is given,the teacher
ask the others students in the class
to add what the volunteers has
contributed.
g. The teacher ask other students to
continue as long as there are
volunteers.
h. The teacher concludes the material
and then checks again the students
comprehension about narrative text(The Tiger Who Would Be A King)
i. The teacher give homework to the
students
CONCLUSION
Speaking ability is an important role in
learning English as a foreign language because
it is very useful both formal communication
and informal communication. If a teacher
wants to be successful in his/her teaching,
he/she has to know properly how to motivate
the students to speak through his/her best
strategy in teaching. It is not easy to do that
because the teacher should know great amount
of material to be taught before teaching in the
classroom. Besides that, he/she has to choose
one of the most appropriate strategies in
teaching.
Everyone is a Teacher Here is a
strategy that will help teacher to teach the
