Kids’ College is a summer enrichment program designed to spark the imagination

and expand the knowledge of youth entering grades 4 through 6 in the fall of 2016.

ELIGIBILITY

Any child who will enter grades 4 through 6 in the fall of 2016 can enroll. Students who do

not display appropriate behavior will be removed from the program without a refund.

DATES & SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday, July 18-22, 2016

8:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Class #1

9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Break/Snacks

10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Class #2

11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Lunch

11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Class #3

1:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Break/Snacks

1:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Class #4 (Pick up time is 3:00 p.m.)

REGISTRATION AND TUITION

No registration is complete without a signed application, registration, a signed release of

waiver of liability and payment for each student (p. 7-9). Complete and return all required

forms to the UACCB community education office no later than May 27, 2016. After May

27, late registrations are accepted with a $25 fee (no exceptions). Siblings pay $25 less per

week for the second child. Fees are as follows:

$180 full-day classes, includes lunch and two snacks each day

$105 half-day classes, includes one snack each day

$ 25 additional per week for lunch (optional for half-day student)

SCHOLARSHIPS

A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Parents or guardians must furnish a

copy of their child’s free/reduced lunch eligibility letter on school letterhead signed by a

school official. You may request for the school to fax the free/reduced lunch eligibility

letter to Fax# 870.793.4988. If the student is home-schooled, parent or guardians must

furnish a copy of the 2015 individual income tax return (1040). The completed scholarship

application (p. 10) must accompany the $50 payment and the child's application,

registration and release of waiver of liability. (p. 7-9). Deadline to apply for scholarship

is May 27, 2016.

REFUND POLICY

Cancellations and requests for refunds must be received in writing (letter, fax, email) seven

(7) business days prior to the start of each class session. Students dismissed from Kids’

College due to disruptive behavior will not be eligible for a refund.

GRADES 4-6 Course Descriptions

Adventures in Emerald City Coding. Unleash your inner computer science kid by

learning how to code. Some activities will be unplugged and others will be plugged in.

If you love computer games, you will love this class! Denise Hogan, instructor.

Arkansas Indians and Mask Making. Make an awesome Indian war mask, a leather-

look horse and learn about a real Indian artist. Lisa Harber Hurtt, instructor.

Around the World Crafts and Snacks. Everyone needs a didgeridoo! Create crafts

and snacks from Australia, Mexico, France, China and the USA. Tiffany Cooper,

instructor.

Cakes of Oz. Unleash your cake making wizardry by creating an over the rainbow

cupcake, witch’s cupcake, yellow brick road cake and more. Julie Gosser, instructor.

Candies of Oz. Unleash your candy making wizardry by creating a witch’s hat, a

broomstick, Toto the dog cookie, a ruby red slipper cookie, a chocolate tornado and

Center Stage in Oz. Explore acting

techniques through emotions, cooperative

games, small scene rehearsals, props and

costuming. Gia Taylor, instructor.

Computer Games. Enhance your keyboarding

skills with fun, educational computer games.

Kelsie Wilson, instructor.

Cool Cooking. Learn how to cook without the

cooking. Make no-bake cookies, Cheerio

treats, Jolly Rancher pops, Oreo delight and

more without having to use the stove. Amy

Crafty Creations. Get crafty and design

creations from the Land of Oz, including the

emerald city, the tin man, the scarecrow, the

lion, a rainbow and more! Melanie Brustrom,

Dancing Down the Yellow Brick Road. Explore the art of dance as you learn your

own yellow brick road choreography. Ronda Bryant, instructor.

Dorothy & Friends – On With the Show! Express yourself with chants, songs and

rhythm instruments. Stefanie Difani, instructor.

Follow Your Fitness. Move it! Move it! Get moving with stretching, jogging and fun

exercises! Kelsie Wilson, instructor.

Girl Crafts I. Want a fun, craft-filled week? How about making your own stylish

headband or hair bow? Ever wanted to try crayon melting art? Your week will be filled

with a salon day, tie-dye t-shirt art, friendship bracelet and tons of other crafts! Amy

Walling, instructor.

Girl Crafts II. Get crafty making a dream catcher, handmade tutu, heart knot bracelet,

tie dye accessories and more! Tiffany Cooper, instructor.

Junk Drawer Crafts. Get crafty with things you might find in a junk drawer. Use

everyday items to make things that will help you follow your yellow brick road.

Magic Potions. Use science and math fractions to make fun, fizzing potions. Ashley

Dellinger, instructor.

Oz-some Crafts. Get crafty with a Wizard of Oz character mask, a handmade hat, a tin

man from cans, a wicked witch of the west bookmark, a spinning hot air balloon and

more! Ashley Dearien, instructor.

Pizzazz with Picasso. Hey kids! Do you

know who Picasso is? In this class, you will

make a 3-D sculpture using panty hose,

design a Picasso face and learn about this

amazing artist. Lisa Harber Hurtt,

instructor.

Robots to the Rescue. How would you like

to make an awesome robot out of junk? It’s

called “junk sculpture.” Each robot will be

different! Lisa Harber Hurtt, instructor.

Science Competitions. Ever heard of

“Minute to Win It” games? Build your own

boat, compete in teams to be the last boat

floating after pennies are stacked inside,

create the largest toothpick tower, build the

best bridge or be the first to win the sponge

bucket challenge! Amy Walling, instructor.

Science Engineering Team Competitions. Design and build the tallest tower, the

sturdiest perch, the fastest balloon rocket and more! Tiffany Cooper, instructor.

Science Fun in the Land of Oz. Explore the land of Oz with fun art activities as you

learn about rocks and gems, colors and rainbows. You will also do a craft activity that

demonstrates how a hot air balloon works. Angelique Gray, instructor.

Science, Learning and Fun, Oh My! Explore tornadoes and weather along with

rainbows and color. Sheryl Greenway, instructor.

There’s No Place Like Home Reader’s Theater. Travel to the magical Land of Oz

and become one of the characters in the story. Make character masks, props and read a

script from a different scene of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz each day. Melanie

Brustrom, instructor.

Twisty Tornadoes. Have you ever been curious about tornadoes? What are they? How

do they work? Explore tornadoes through research, computers and technology,

experiments and more! Ronda Bryant, instructor.

Wacky Weather Experiments. Experience the excitement of our “wacky” weather

through fun, hands-on science experiments. Make tornadoes and rainbows in a jar,

weather instruments and more! Melanie Brustrom, instructor.

RELEASE OF WAIVER OF LIABILITY (PART 3 OF 3)

2005 White Drive, Batesville, AR, owned and/or operated by the Board of Trustees of the

University of Arkansas for and on behalf of the University of Arkansas Community College at

Batesville (University). I acknowledge and accept that the camp may expose my child to

hazards and risks, including injury or death, and that University cannot control these risks. I

acknowledge there may be physically strenuous activities and certify that my child is fit and

capable of such participation. I understand that University is not responsible for any medical

expenses associated with any personal injury my child may sustain and understand that

University does not provide medical insurance for me and my child. I certify that my child is

covered by adequate insurance to cover any personal injury which he may sustain while

participating in this camp.

In consideration of University providing the opportunity for my child to

participate in this camp, I release University, its Board of Trustees, officers, employees,

and representatives from any and all liability to me and my child, our personal

representatives, estate, heirs, and assigns for any and all claims, demands and causes of

action for any and all illness or injury to my child, including death arising out of, during

KIDS’ COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville Kids’ College

Scholarship is for a partial scholarship. This scholarship may be applied to the

tuition costs for one week of the 2016 Kids’ College. There is no guarantee of

funding. Scholarship funding depends on UACCB’s fundraising efforts and the

number of applicants. Scholarships will be awarded based on a first come,

first serve basis.

In addition to completing this form, parents or guardians must furnish a copy of

their child’s free/reduced lunch eligibility letter on school letterhead, signed by a

school official. You may request for the school to fax the free/reduced lunch

eligibility letter to 870.793.4988. If the student is home-schooled, a parent or

guardian must furnish a copy of the 2015 individual income tax return (1040).

Deadline to apply for scholarship is May 27, 2016. The parent portion for the

partial scholarship is $50. Your $50 payment ensures your child's reserved seat

in classes and must be submitted with this scholarship application, the Kids’

College application, registration and release of waiver of liability (p. 7-9).
