MAXIMUM SENSING DISTANCE - The maximum theoretical distance from a sensor face that a target can be detected. (A)•SENSING DISTANCE - The usable sensing distance which takes into account maximum variations in supply voltage and temperature. This distance is generally recommended to be 80% of Maximum Sensing Distance. (A)•SENSING DISTANCE - The usable sensing distance which

Sensing distance

Sensing distance are based on a standard target made of

mild steel. If the target to be sensed is other than mild

steel, or if the surface has been plated, a Material

Correction Factor must be applied. Thus the Practical

Sensing Distance must be multiplied by the Material

Correction Factor to obtain a Corrected Sensing Distance.

Refer to the Table of Common Material Correction Factors.

The correction factors shown are only to be used as a

guideline.

Terminology

•PROXIMITY SENSOR - A device which detects the presence of

Installation

The possibility of frequency interference exists when

sensors are mounted adjacent to each other. To prevent

this possibility, a minimum spacing between adjacent

sensors must be maintained.

It is good engineering practice to mount sensors either

horizontally or with the sensing face down. This will

prevent metal fillings or other foreign contamination from

falling on the sensor face and causing erroneous

operation.
