MEET THE CANDIDATE:

Rev. James Smith

Pastor Jim Smith is a 53 year old native of Michigan. He earned a BS degree

in marketing from Ferris State University in 1981 and a Masters of Divinity from

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1987.

Jim has served as a senior/lead pastor for 15 years at Baptist churches in Con-

necticut, New Hampshire and Maine. He was also Executive Director of a

Christian non-profit agency, Care Net Pregnancy Resource Center, in Manas-

sas, Virginia. In 2006, Jim assumed his current position as Senior Associate

Pastor, responsible for executive pastoral leadership of Lake of the Woods

Church (a 900 member interdenominational congregation located in Locust

Grove, Virginia, just south of Washington, DC).

For the past 26 years, Jim has been married to Lisa, who enjoys using her gifts

and talents to support Jim’s ministry, encourage others and serve the Lord

through drama and music within the church.

Jim and Lisa have one daughter, Megan, who currently lives in Alaska, where

her husband

is stationed with the US Coast Guard. The Smiths also have a three-year-old

grandson.

Among Jim's main passions and gifts in ministry are practical, expository

preaching and teaching; building and applying Biblical truth for daily life; leader-

ship development; administration and planning; and building community in the

church.

During the service on Sunday, June 9th, we will be recognizing our graduating High School Seniors. We would also like to honor stu-dents who are graduating from college or other degree programs by including them in our Sunday Bulletin. Please send the name, school, degree received and contact information (optional) of any

college graduates to the Church Office ([email protected]) by June 3rd.

Nathan Caldwell will be going on a missions trip this summer to Mexico, to assist five different organizations in camp devel-opment. He will be taking charge of six different camp pro-grams, as well as assisting with a seventh. He estimates help-ing approximately 350 kids, and 50-60 staff who would not have otherwise been able to go to camp. In order for this to

happen, he needs to raise $3000 dollars for travel, food, and housing expenses. If you would like to be involved you can find out more on his FB page or at www.campsinternational.org. Please make your check payable to EGCC and write 'Mission to Mexico' on the memo line.
