    2EL BU! STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS1. GENERAL1.1 SCOPEThis specification concerns the manufacture of and theconstruction details for metal buildings designed and constructedto be weather tight and easily erected. Dean Steel Buildings, Inc.,designs its buildings to and adheres to the policies of MBMA's"Low Rise Building Systems Manual." The building shall includethe structural framing, roof and wallcovering, trim and closures,and accessoriesherein described.1.2 DESCRIPTION

    1.2.1 SM - Straight Column Rigid Frame Buildings with aroof slope of 1:12.1.2.2 SS - Single Slope Rigid Frame Buildings with a roofslope of1/2:12.1.2.3 LR - Tapered Column Rigid Frame Buildings with aroof slope of 1:12.1.2.4 LM - Tapered Column Rigid Frame Buildings withinteriorcolumns and aroof slope of 1:12.1.2.5 RF - Tapered Column Rigid Frame Buildings with aroof slope of 4:12.1.2.6 W U - Simple Span Frame Extensions from any of theabove buildings. They shall havearoof slope of 1:12.

    1.3 BUILDING NO MENCLATURE1.3.1 The building "Width and Length" shall be measuredfrom inside to inside face of thewallcovering.1.3.2 The building "Save Height" shall be measured fromthe bottomofthe base plate ofthe rigid frame columns to theintersection of lines representing the inside of the wattcovering and the inside of the roof covering.1.3.3 The "Roof Slope" shall be the angle that the roofsurface makes with the horizontal, expressed in the units ofvertical rise to 12units of horizontal run.1.3.4 The "BaySpacing" between frame center lines shafl be20',25',or30'. Endbaysshallbe 18'-ll",23'-ll",or28'-ll".

    1.4 DRAWINGSThe building manufacturer shaQ furnish complete constructiondetails showing anchor bolt settings; sjdewafl, endwafl, and roofframing; transverse cross-sections; covering and flashing details;and accessory installation details to clearly indicate the properassembly ofallbuildingparts.1.5 UX. UPLIFT RATINGSThe building manufacturer shall furnish, when required, a roofdeck system having the Underwriters Laboratories wind upliftrating of:a) Class30 (30psf Nominal Uplift Pressure)b) Class60 (60 psf Nominal Uplift Pressure)

    c) Class 90 (90 psf Nominal Uplift Pressure)These roof deck systems are shown in the U.L. publications"Building Materials Directory," and are listed as Construction No.65 (Rib-12 U.L. 30, 60, 90) and Construction No. 205 (ProSeamU.L. 90).2. DESIGN2.1 GENERAL

    2.1.1 All structural steel sections and welded platemembers shall be designed in accordance with AISCManualof Steel Construction, "Allowable Stress Design," (ASD) 9*Edition.2.1.2 Afl cold-formed structural members and exteriorcovering shall be designed in accordance with the latest

    edition of the AISI, "Specifications for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members."

    2.2 DESIGNLOADS2.2.1 The following criteria for live loads and wind loadsshall be followed in the design of standard buildingcomponents permitted under the Florida BuildingCode.2.2.1.1The roof live toad shall be applied to the horizontal

    roof projection according to specification 1604.6 and1615.1 for buildings in the highvelocitycategory.

    2.2.1.2 Wind loads shall be assumed to act horizontallyand shall be applied as pressure and suction inaccordance with ASCE 7-98, section 6.0. Wind loads aregiven in terms of 3-second gust and range from 100 mphto 150mph.2.2.1.3 Broward andMiami-Dade Counties are categorizedas highvelocity. Buildings designated at highvelocity shaflcomply with the requirements of sections 1611-1626,inclusive. Rib-12 wallpanelshave been tested and passedPA202-94, PA201-94 and PA203-94 and carry productapproval 01-0618.04. Rib-12 roof panelshave been testedand passed PA125,PA110, PA201, PA100, PA114, UL580,ASTM G23 and ASTM B117 and carry product approval01-0618.03.

    2.2.2 The following criteria for live loads and wind loads shaflbe followed in the design of standard building componentspermitted under the International Building Code.

    2.2.2.1 The roof live load shafl be applied to the horizontalroof flection accordingto specification 1607.11. 12 psfistypicafly appliedto the frames and 20 psf to the purlins.2.2.2.2 Wind toads shafl be assumed to act horizontallyand shafl be applied as pressure and suction inaccordance with ASCE7-98, section 6.0. Wind loads aregiven in terms of3-second gust and range from 90 mph to150 mph. Exposure B is assumed unless otherwiseindicated.

    2.2.3 Buildings may be designed to other model buildingcodes such as BOCA National Building Code, UniformBuilding Code and ASCE7 as required by local jurisdictions.Please call for availabilityofcodes not listed.2.2.4The buildingshafl be designed to the toad combinationsspecified in the applicable building code or the MBMA "LowRise Building Systems Manual", 1996 edition.2.2.5 Designs shafl include the building dead toad, roof livetoad, wind, snow and seismic toad in accordance withDean'sinterpretation of the building code. Additional collateral andauxiliary toads shafl be included when specified by the buyer.

    3. STRUCTURAL FRAMING3.1 GENERAL

    3.1.1 Afl framing members shafl be shop-fabricated forboltedfieldassembly.3.1.2 Primary structural framing shafl include thetransverse rigid frame, wing unit rafter beams and columns,canopy beams, intermediate columns, bearing end frames,

    endwafl columns, and wind bracing.3.1.3Secondary structural framingshall include the purlins,girts, eave struts, jambs, headers, flange bracing, s f f l support,clips, and other miscellaneous structural parts.3.1.4 All hot rolled steel sheet, plate, and strip for built-upsections shall have aminimumyield point of 55,000psi. Hotrolled structural sections shall conform to the requirementsof ASTM Specification A570/A607, 55 KSI. Twelve, fourteen,fifteen, and sixteen gauge cold formed sections shall have aminimum yield point of 55,000 psi and a minimum tensilestrength of 65,000 psL Galvanized sheet and strip forstructural framing members shall conform to ASTMSpecificationsA653, Grade "A".3.1.5 Pipe for columnsand other structural usesshallhave42,000 psiyield.3.1.6 Unless otherwisespecified, the minimum thicknessofframingmembers shall beasfollows:Cold farmed primaryframingmembers. 14gaugeCold formed secondaryframingmembers. 16gaugeIntermediatepipe columns 3/16"Websofwelded built-up members 12gaugeFlangesof welded built-up members 3/16Bracing (Cable standard 1/4 dia.Bracing(Rod optional) 1/2 dia.3.1.7 Cold-formed sections shall be manufactured byprecision rofl orbrake forming. AH dimensionsshaUbe true.3.1.8 All shop connections shall be by welding inaccordance with the AWS"Structural Welding Code" latestedition. Welding shall be by submerged arc or gas shieldedarcprocess.3.1.9 All field connections shaU be field bolted with ASTMSpecification A-307 or A-325 boltsasshown on drawings. A-325 bolts shall be tightened by the turn of the nut method.Connections in secondary members shall be made withspecial 1/2 Truss Head Fin Neck bolts and hexnutswhenrequired.3.1.10Afl framing members shaU carry an easfly visibleidentifyingmark.

    3.2 RIGID FRAMES, WING UNIT FRAMES, AND CANOPYBEAMS

    AH members shaUbe welded, built-up, T shapes, either constantdepth ortapered.3.3 BEARING ENDFRAMESBearing end frames shall be hot rolled sections and consist ofcolumns at the building corners and a continuous rafter beamsupported by the endwafl columns. An optional bearing framesystemwifl consist ofcold formed "Csections and "Z" sections.3.4 ENDWALL COLUMNSEndwafl columns shall be hotrolled sections orwelded built-up Tshapes. Optional endwafl columns Witt consist of cold formed "C"sections.

    3.4.1 Endwafl assemblies shall consist of hot rofled columnsand bypass girts. Optional hot rolled columnsorcold formedcolumnswithinsertgirtsare available upon request

    3.5 PURLINS ANDGIRTSPurlins and girts shaU be cold farmed "2 ? sections with stiffenedflanges. They shall be simple or continuous span as required bydesign.3.6 EAVE STRUTSEave struts shall be 8 deep cold fanned sections sufficient toprovide adequate backup for both roof and wafl panels at thebuildingeaves.

    3.7 WIND BRACING3.7.1 Wind bracing in the roof and/or sidewafl is notrequired where the diaphragm strength of the roof and/orwafl coveringis adequate toresist the longitudinal wind forces. If required,wind bracingshall be provided by diagonal cables.3.7.2 OPTIONAL BRACING shall consist of wind bents(portal frames), fixed base wind columns, diagonal rodbracing, or diagonal angle bracing.3.7.3 Buildingsover 200' wide mayrequire cable bracing atinterior column lines.3.8 FLANGE BRACING

    The inside flange of afl rafters and columns shall be bracedlaterallyby angles connected to the flange of the frame and to thewebof the purlin orgirtsothat the allowable compressive stress isadequate forany combinationof loading.3.9 BASESUPPORTAcontinuous member shall be provided towhich the base of thewafl covering may be attached. This member shall be galvanizedor pre-painted red angle used in conjunction with a 1-1/2"sheetledge formed in the concrete or optional 18 gauge galvanizedpainted Bronze base trim secured to the concrete floor withpowerdriven fastenersor equivalentanchors.301O FRAMED OPENINGSStructural framing members faraflopenings shall be cold formed"Csections and adequate for the specified design wind loads.3.11 EXPANSION JOINTS

    3.11.1 Longitudinal expansion joints may be requiredwhen the building length exceeds 500. These joints shaflallow adequate expansion and contraction of thelongitudinalmembersand roof and wafl panels.3.11.2 Transverse expansion joints may be required whenthe buildingwidth (span) exceeds 200* on gabled buildingsor 100 single slope (these dimensions can be doubledwhen using Pro Seam panels with floating clips). Thesejoints shafl allow adequate expansion and contraction of theroof panels and shafl be flashed to ensure weathertightness.

    3.12 PAINTINGAB structural framing members whichare not galvanized shafl becleaned to remove dirt, grease, ofl, and loose mifl scale, and givenone shop coat of iron oxide primer formulated to meet or exceedthe performance requirements ofFederal SpecificationsTT-P-636and TT-P-664. Primer is for protection of steel building duringtransit and isnot intended asan exterior finish.4. ROOF&WALLS4.1 STANDARD PANEL PROFILES

    4.1.1 Rib-12 (RT) - 1-1/4" deep ribs 12 on center with two1/4" deep intermediate stiffeners; 36" net coverage.4.1.2 Shadow Panel (SP) - 1-1/4 deep recesses 12" oncenter with intermediate accent lines; 36" net coverage waflpanel4.1.3 Rfl>6(RS)3/4 deep ribs 6"on center; 36netcoverage.

    4.3 STANDING SEAM PANEL PROFILEPro Seam - 3" self-locking rib roof panel, concealedfixed or floatingdips, 24" netcoverage.4.4 STANDING SEAM PANEL PROPERTIESPro Seam panels shall be 24 gauge Aluminum Zinc Alloy-Coatedsteel ASTM A-792, Grade D,50,000 psL Optionalpanels shall be26 gauge Aluminum Zinc Alloy-Coated steel ASTM A-792, GradeD 50,000psL4.5 FASTENERS

    4.5.1 A H self-tapping fasteners shall conform to USASB18.6.4 and shall have type A or type AB threads. All self-drilling fasteners shall conform to IF 1113. Where requiredfor weather tightness, fasteners shall be assembled withneoprene sealingwashers.4.5.2 PlatingA. All fasteners shall be plated to minimum thickness of

    .0005".B. Optional extended corrosion resistant fasteners shall

    be Zac (zinc-aluminum cast head) with aluminumand neoprene sealingwashers.

    4.6 SEALERSealer for side laps, end laps, and flashing shall be a butyl basedpolymer sealant in extruded tape form. The sealer shall be non-shrinking, non-drying, and non-toxic and shall have superioradhesion to metals, plastics, and painted surfaces. Servicetemperatures range from -30 to + 300F. Thematerial shall notHow at 120F, and shall meet or exceed the requirements ofGov.Spec. No.MSL -C 18969 Type H, ClassB andTT-C-1796A.4.7 INSTALLATION OFROOF AN D WALL PANELS

    4.7.1 Roof panels shall be continuous from ridge to eave farbuildings60'wide or less. Where end laps are required theyshall be a minimum of 6" long and shall occur at a roofpurlin.4.7.2 Sidewafl and endwaH panels shall be continuous fromsill to roof line except where length becomes prohibitive forhandling purposes. Endwafl panels far buildings with 4:12roof slope may have a spliceat the eave line.4.7.3. Endwafl panels shall be square cut for buildingswitha 1:12 roof slope and bevel cutfar buildingswitha> 2:12 roofslope when the panel islongerthan 5'-0".4.7.4 Before securing, all laps of roof panels shall be sealedwith a continuous ribbon of tape sealer.4.7.5 Standard Roof Panels. The information below isgeneral; please refer to your construction drawings forspecific screw spacing information.A. Roof panels shafl be secured to purlins with #14 sheet

    metal screws ala maximum spacing of12".B. At end lapsof rib sheets the maximumspacing shafl beon each side of the major rib for Rib-12 panels and 6"on center for Rib-6.

    C. Side laps to roof panels shafl be stitched through thehigh flat of the rib with #14 sheet metal screws at amaximum spacing of 20" or 12" on center for windloads 120 mph (fastest mite) or greater and 140 mph(peak gust)orgreater.

    4.7.6 Standing Seam Roof PanelsPro Seam panels shall be secured by a fixed or floating dipwith a 1/4-14 x 1-1/4" self drilling fastener at 24" on centerand fastened to each purlin. Peak and panel laps shafl be

    secured with compression joints consisting of rigid metalplateson the top and bottomof the panels.4.7.7 Standard Wafl Panels. The information below isgeneral; please refer to your construction drawings forspecific screwspacing information.A. Wafl panels shafl be secured to girts with #14 sheet

    metal screwsat amaximum spacingof 12".B. At the end laps of rib sheets the maximum spacing

    shall be on each side of the major rib for Rib-12panelsand 6" on center for Rb-6.C. At the side laps of sheets, #10 sheet metal screwsshafl beplaced a maximumof 30" or 12" on center for

    wind loads 120 mph (fastest mile) or greater and 140mph (peak gust)orgreater.

    4.8 FLASHING, CLOSURES, AND TRIM4.8.1 Flashing and/or trim shall be furnished at the rake,corners, eaves, framed openings, and wherever necessary toprovide weather tightness and a finished appearance.4.8.2 Sculptured rake trim shafl be rofl farmed 26, oroptional 24, gauge material20' longtominimizejoints. Othertrim shall be 26 gauge.4.8.3 Sculptured rake trim material shafl be AluminumZinc Afloy-Coated steel (50,000 psi yield) or optional colorcoated galvanized steel conforming to ASTM Specification A-653 Grade D (50,000psiyield).4.8.4 A formed panel matching the slope and profile ofadjoining panels shafl be providedalongthe buildingridgeforRib-12 panels. Apreformed metal outside closure and ridgeflashing shafl beusedwith ProSeam panels.4.8.5 Closure strips matching the profile ofthe panel shallbe installed along the rake and/or eave where required forweather tightness. Closure strips shafl be dosed cefl, semi-rigid, crossKriked polyethylene foam laminated far strengthand uniform compressibility. Metal inside closure strips shaflbeused at the eave far Pro Seam panels.

    4.9 COLOR FINISH4.9.1 Exterior steel surfaces shafl be Aluminum Zinc Afloy-Coated or optional color coated Aluminum Zinc Afloy-Coatedor galvanized (G90) steeLA. Color of roof panels, wall panels, and comer trim shafl

    be selected from Dean'sstandard colors.B. The roof ventilators shafl be Aluminum Zinc Afloy-

    Coated or White.C. Gutter, rake trim, downspouts, eave trim, and door

    flashing shafl be Aluminum Zinc Afloy-Coated orprepainted galvanized in 26 ga. in standard colorsshown onDean's color card. Optional 24ga.availablein Aluminum Zinc coated or prepainted galvanizedWhite orBronze.

    4.9.2 The color surface shafl be a silicon-polyester co-polymer resin type to give superior adhesion and durabfliry.The coating shall be a D.F.T. of 1.0 mil thick (+.1mfl). Thereverse or backer coat shafl be a straight polyester with aD.F.T. of 0.5mfl thickness.4.9.3 The Dean color coated panels are available withoptional 5-, 10-, and 20-year written limitedguarantees. Foradditional information on the primer, finish coat, orguarantee please contact your Dean representative.

    5. ACCESSORIES5.1 HOLLOW METAL SWING DOORS

    5.1.1 3070 door leafs shall be 1-3/4" thick, f u f l flush, 20gauge hot dipped galvanized(G60). The leafs shall have anexpanded polystyrene core, a closed cell, rigid thermoplastic

    5.2 SLIDING DOORS5.2.1 Sliding door leafs shall be constructed ofbolted steelframing covered withRib-12panels.5.2.2 The leafs shall be suspended from a galvanized steeltrack by dual-wheeled, galvanized steel, permanentlylubricated trolley hangers. The track brackets and trolleysshall beprotectedby a counter-flashed hood.5.2.3 Sliding door jambs and headers (when required) shallbe cold formed channel sections having one standard shopcoat of primer.

    5.3 SKYLIGHTS5.3.1 Skylight panels shall be general purpose gjassfiberreinforcedpolyester structural plasticpanels.5.3.2 Skylights shall be white smooth surface finished, in aprofile matching the roof panelsand shallweigh8 ouncespersquarefoot Skylightsconform toPS 53-72,Type I (burn rateof not less than 2.0 inches per minute). Note: VoluntaryProduct Standard PS 53-72, issuedbythe U.S. Departmentof Commerce January 1, 1972, has been replaced as theStandard Specification byASTM D3841-81.

    5.4 SAVE GUTTERSAND DOWNSPOUTS5.4.1 Sculpturedeavegutter 4-1/2"x5 shafl beton formed26 gauge, or optional 24 gauge, 20'long forease oferection.Gutter shall be fastened with gutter brackets at 3' spacingafter roof and wall sheets are in place. Contour of the guttershall match the rake flashing and allow foreasy fieldmiterofthe comer without an auxiliary cornerbox.5.4.2 Downspouts shall be 26 gauge steel, 4" x 5".Downspouts shall have a 45elbow at the bottomand shallbe supported by attachment to the wall covering at 6'maximum spacing.

    5.5 WINDOWS5.5.1 Horizontal slide aluminum windows shall be self-flashing, furnishedwitha sash lock,weather-stripping, and ahalf screen.The exposed surfaces shall be finished in Bronze enamelpaint The windows shall be factory glazed with doublestrength PSB) glass.

    5.5.2 Accent windows shall be self-flashingfixedglass. Theexposed surfaces shall be finished in Bronze enamel paintThe windows shall be factory glazed with tinted temperedglass.5.5.3 Windowssupplied by DSB may notbe adequate for aflwindloads and are not impactresistant

    5.6 VENTILATORSRidge ventilators shall be gravity type, fabricated from Aluminum.ZincAlloy-Coatedsteel orgalvanizedsteel painted White.

    5.6.1 Monovents shall have a 9" or 12*throat and arefurnished in 10 lengths. Splice plates and end caps,whererequired, shall be provided to make up the specified length.A H monovents shall be furnishedwith birdscreen. Optionaldamper shall provide an adjustable opening at the throatand shall be of the manually-operated pull chain type.5.6.2 Lo-profile vents are designed for ProSeam and Rib-12roof systems and offer pleasing, efficient ventilation. Ventscome in 10 lengths, single or continuous, 6-1/2" throat @1:12 pitch, 450 CFM Base Rating.

    5.7 LOUVERSLouvers shall be fabricated from 26 gauge galvanized steel andshall have overlapping blades formaximum weather tightness.Blade shafl be fixedwith integral birdscreen. ColorshallbeWhiteunlessotherwisespecified.6. BUILDING ANCHORAGE AND FOUNDATION6.1 ANCHOR BOLTSAnchor bolts shall resist 100% of the critical column reactions(shear and/or tension) determined from the load combinations.The manufacturer is responsible for design of anchor boltdiameter and projection above the concrete foundation, but isnotresponsible for the transfer ofanchor bolt forces to the concretenor the adequacy of the anchor bolts in relation to the concrete;this is the responsibilityof the buyer. Anchor bolts supplied byDS B (optional) w f f l be 36 KSI yield.6.2 FOUNDATIONThe building foundation shall be designed by a qualified engineerto support the building reactions in addition to other loadsimposed by the building use or occupancy. The design shall bebased on actual jobsite conditions. Foundation design shallinclude provisions for bolt embedment, length, hook, bearingangles, kickout bars, tie rods, and any other associated itemsembedded in the concrete. Dean Steel Buildings, Inc., does notdesign nor assume responsibility for the design, materials, orworkmanship of the foundation.Specifications cover buildings manufactured by Dean SteelBuildings, Inc.
