Page 1 of 3 PRESIDENT’S SCRIPT - REGULAR BUSINESS BOARD MEETING –May 1, 2014 4. PUBLIC AGENDA, PART ONE 4.02 PUBLIC COMMENT PART ONE --- estimated start time 6:40 p.m. We will now move to Part One of our Public Comment, which is for comments related to items on tonight’s business agenda. If you signed up to speak to the Board on any other topic and cannot wait until Part Two of our Public Comment later in the meeting, you are welcome to submit your written statement tonight to Ms. Rogers, which she will share with the board…. or please write your comments to the Board and we will send you a written response. The Board’s address is on our meeting agenda and online. Before we begin Public Comment, part one, I want to share with you the guidelines we’ve developed for addressing the Board of Education. We will take 45 minutes for Part One public comment and any portion of Part Two public comment we can get through in that timeframe. After that time, the remaining Part Two comments will be taken later in the agenda. The Board listens with respect and asks those who address the Board to do the same. In order to respect those addressing the Board, we request that the audience not applaud individual speakers and that issues, rather than personalities, be addressed. Also remember, you are being recorded, please use no names of students and families that are not your own. Any resident, parent, student or staff member of the district who has completed the requested information on the public comment roster will be called up to address the Board. You will be asked to state your name, street address and city before beginning your comments to the Board. This is not a time for dialogue with the Board, however, if we do not have an answer for you this evening, staff will follow-up with you after the meeting. Individual speakers will have three (3) minutes each to address the Board. We ask that if you agree with a previous speaker that you may simply wish to state that, or consolidate your individual remarks so that you address the Board with new thoughts or concepts.

Page 2 of 3 It is our practice that when four or more people wish to address the Board on the same topic, we allot time for a collective view to be presented. Tonight, groups will have a total of ten (10) minutes to address the Board. We will ask all those who sign up on a collective topic to accompany the speaker to the front of the Board room and introduce themselves. We believe that it is not the number of people who address the Board that leads to better decision-making, rather the content of your presentation. We appreciate your cooperation. We’ll begin tonight with…... Would { name(s) } please come forward, speaking on (issue)….. If the speaker(s) state they live in Littleton, “Which county?”

IF NEEDED: A motion isn't required to change/extend the individual speaker’s time… it is within the president's authority to set the time but to seek affirmation from the majority.

8. PUBLIC COMMENT, PART TWO --- estimated start time 8:30 p.m. We will now move to Part Two of our Public Comment, which is for comments not related to items on tonight’s business agenda.

REPEAT GUIDELINES FOR ADDRESSING THE BOARD PRESIDENT’S SCRIPT - SPECIAL BOARD MEETING –June 19, 2014

After staff presentation, the Public Hearing on the Budget

Page 3 of 3 At this time, the Board listens to concerns on the 2014/2015 Budget for up to 45 minutes. We listen with respect and ask those who address the Board to do the same. In order to respect all persons addressing the Board, we request that the audience not applaud individual speakers and that issues, rather than personalities, be addressed. Any resident or staff member of the district who has completed the requested information on the public comment roster may speak. There is a three minute time limit per person. If there are a number of speakers commenting on the same topic this evening, we ask that remarks be consolidated and new thoughts or concepts shared. It is not the number of people who address the Board that leads to better decision-making, rather the content of your presentation. So, we respectfully ask that you do not repeat the same message of an earlier speaker. If there are four or more people who wish to address the Board on the same side of the same topic, each person must have signed up online. The Board will allow 10 minutes for that group's view to be heard. All those who signed up must accompany the speaker to the front of the Board room. We respectfully ask that you do not repeat the same message, but rather present varying concepts on the same theme. If more than 25 people sign up to speak to the Board, we will limit individual speakers to two minutes and groups to five minutes so that the Board can hear from as many citizens as possible.

We will now move to our Public Hearing. Would { name(s) } please come forward, speaking on (issue)….. After Public Hearing, PAUSE for Board discussion
