mente. ¡Gracias!

T HANK YOU to the members of the Dis-cipleship Initiative and to all who gave

so much of their Time and Talent to make

the Parish Celebration of Our Lady of La

Salette Feast such a beautiful, prayerful and fun filled time for all.

It was wonderful to see our different ministries and many parishioners

come together in prayer every evening for

the Novena to Our Lady of LaSalette. It was great seeing so many just hanging out

and enjoying each other’s company last Satur-

day evening at the Historic Canton Theater. It was

also terrific to see how so many came together on Sunday afternoon to enjoy our Anniversary Luncheon

and the play “The Apparition at La Salette” performed

by our Latino Young Adults Group. Our prayer and hope were that these celebrations would strengthen

our sense of community as a parish; I believe we suc-

ceeded admirably. Thank You!

How do we use what God has given us? Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Week of September 22, 2013

Listen to the Word (Luke 16:1-13) Again today, the Gospel is demanding. When you heard it pro-claimed, how did you feel? What word or phrase struck you?

What is most memorable about this reading?

Look into Your Life Question for children: Clothes, food, toys all cost money. How do you keep your faith more important than money? Question for youth: The Gospel tells us that money can get in the way of serving God. How can you use all that you have (possessions, money, time, talent) to serve God? Question for adults: Question for adults: Money is an important part of modern life. How can you keep the need for money in balance with your faith? Suggest one or two ways you can.

Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: Today’s gospel stresses that we should be resourceful stewards while doing God’s work. Our land is a land of plenty. Our re-sponsibility is to take care of the world given to us, not to waste, not to be greedy, and to share our wealth. Have your family do a project this week to help clean up a park, highway, beach, or neighborhood. In addition, if your community has a recycling program, encourage all your family members to par-ticipate. For the evening prayer this week, remember to pray for govern-ment leaders. Remind your family of the responsibility we all have to pray for those who are in charge of our civic well-being. Make a list of situations in your community that seem to be exploiting others. Write your senators and congressional repre-sentatives and ask them to work to change these situations.

Readings for the Week of September 22, 2013

Sunday, September 22 - Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Am 8:4-7 Ps 113:1-2, 4-8 1 Tm 2:1-8 Lk 16:1-13 Amos cries out against those who exploit the poor for the sake of extortion and greed. They seek to serve only themselves rather than the Lord. By giving ourselves to God rather than money, we can truly pray with blameless hands for all those in need, especially the poor whom the Lord will raise up. Monday, September 23 - St. Pius of Pietrelcina, priest (Padre Pio) Ezr 1:1-6 Ps 126:1-6 Lk 8:16-18 Through Cyrus, the Lord wills that the captives be freed and return home to rebuild the Temple. The light of gospel must shine forth through our lives. Tuesday, September 24 - Weekday Ezr 6:7-8, 12b, 14-20 Ps 122:1-5 Lk 8:19-21 The dedication of the Temple is celebrated with joy. those who hear the word an practice it constitute the family of Jesus. Wednesday, September 25 - Weekday Ezr 9:5-9 (Ps) Tb 13:2-4, 7-8 Lk 9:1-6 Ezra praises God for his goodness and pardon to sinners. The Twelve are sent forth to proclaim the good news and to heal. Thursday, September 26 - Weekday Hg 1:1-8 Ps 149:1-6a, 9b Lk 9:7-9 The Lord will take delight in the temple which is to be rebuilt. Herod is perplexed by the person of Jesus. Friday, September 27 - St. Vincent DePaul, priest Hg 2:1-9 Ps 43:1-4 Lk 9:18-22 Haggai announces the hope of the approaching messianic era. It is inaugurated in the saving death and resurrection of Jesus. Saturday, September 28 - Weekday Zec 2:5-9, 14-15a (Ps) Jer 31:10-13 Lk 9:43b-45 The future temple will become the gathering place for all peoples. The Son of Man must suffer. Sunday, September 29 - Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Am 6:1a, 4-7 Ps 146:7-10 1 Tm 6:11-16 Lk 16:19-31 Amos condemns the complacency of the rich who seek only their own comfort. In his parable about the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus echoes Amos, rting those who have to share with those who have not. Self-sufficiency must never blind us to the needs of others. Only in this way do we keep God’s commandments in integrity and in truth.

cho. Pero el Evangelio advierte que nadie puede

server a Dios y al dinero. ¿A cuál sirvo yo? ¿Es mi

corresponsabilidad tal que cualquiera se puede dar

cuenta?

Stewardship by the Bible

September 22, 2013

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The dishonest manager in today’s parable knew

how to manipulate money to his own advantage.

But the Gospel warns that no one can serve both

God and money. Which do I serve? Is my stew-

ardship such that anyone can tell?
