Community Delaware is a growing college town of approximately 36,000 located 30 miles north of Columbus, Ohio. The residents span all socioeconomic levels, and it is the home of Ohio Wesleyan University as well as several large industries. Currently, Delaware County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States.
School District The Delaware City School District is a mid-size city school system covering 36 square miles of land. The district enrolled approximately 6050 students as of August 2017. The Delaware City Schools serve a diverse population. On the 2015-2016 state report card 14.7% of students were identified as students with disabilities, 36.8% fit the requirement of economically disadvantaged, 4.7% are Black/non-
Hispanic, 0.9% Asian or Pacific Islander, 5.3% Hispanic, 5.6% Multi-racial, and 83.2% White. 0.7% of the students are described as “limited English proficient.”
The district serves students in eight school facilities: five Grades Pre-K-5 buildings, a Grades 6-8 middle school, and a comprehensive Grades 9-12 high school. Other district facilities include a curriculum and administration building, housing an online alternative education program; technology center; and transportation center.
High School Rutherford B. Hayes High School is a four-year, public school with a total enrollment of over 1680 and a 2017 graduation class of 366. The school is fully accredited by the State of Ohio Department of Education.

Rutherford B. Hayes High School has received a state grade of A for Performance Indicators for overall student growth as well as the growth of students identified as gifted. In addition, a grade of A has been awarded by the state for the four-year graduation rate. Battelle for Kids has also awarded Rutherford B. Hayes High School
Faculty Rutherford B. Hayes High School has 86 licensed faculty, 2 of whom have doctorates, 66 of whom have earned a master’s degree with additional hours, and 11 of whom have 150+ hours. The staff averages over 9 years of experience.
Graduation Requirements
Twenty-one units of credit must include: English (4), Mathematics (4 – Algebra 1 and higher at least through Algebra 2), Science (3 - 1 each Physical/Biological/Advanced), American/World History (2), American Government (.5), Economics (.5), Health (.5), Physical Education (.5), Fine Art (1), and additional electives needed to meet the required 21 credits. All students also need to meet one of the state-mandated Graduation Pathways, which includes earning a minimum of 18 points on the Ohio State Tests, earning college-ready scores on the ACT or SAT, or receiving an industry credential and passing score on the WorkKeys, unless exempted by their individual education plan.
Grading System All courses are figured in computing a weighted Grade Point Average, except courses taken Pass/Fail or at the middle school level, on a 4.0 grading scale. Students taking Advanced Placement and College Credit Plus (weight is only given if in the same subject area as an offered AP course) classes are given an extra grade point. Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, Honors courses are given 0.5 additional weight. Class rank includes all students in each
grade level. Rank and GPA are figured at the end of each semester representing cumulative work. Class rank and GPA are released to college admissions personnel with each transcript. All grades and courses for transfer students are included in accumulative GPA and rank. Honors courses are designated on the transcript as Honors, Enriched, or Accelerated.

House System Rutherford B. Hayes High School personalizes the educational experience of students by placing students into one of eight Houses. Within their House, students receive one-on-one assistance from teachers, participate in club activities, and compete in various competitions throughout the year.

Valedictorian/Salutatorian Criteria
The Valedictorian shall have the highest GPA in the class and take at least 3 Advanced Placement classes. The Salutatorian shall have the second highest GPA in the class and take at least 2 Advanced Placement classes.
Graduate’s Plans Approximately 49.1% of our 2017 graduates planned to attend four-year colleges and universities; 21.3% to attend two-year colleges or technical schools; 15.2% to enter the workforce full-time and 3.7% to enter the military.
