FROM THE PRINCIPALS DESK We have made it its the last week of term and despite a number of illnesses, reports and assessments and very cold starts to the day we only have a few days left. I am sure the students (& staff) are looking forward to a well-earned break and will enjoy two weeks of holidays. Just a reminder that our first day of school for Term 3 will be Tuesday 16 th July. Teachers will be participating in professional learning about Spelling on Monday 15th July. SCHOOL VALUES Caring – we make sure our school is safe and inclusive- I practice kindness. As I have walked through classrooms and out on yard duty this week I have seen many examples of kindnessfrom our students, staff and parents. Some of the examples include: carrying a school bag for someone, using manners, helping someone who has fallen over, speaking kindly to another student, smiling at someone and sharing a piece of fruit. Well done – no wonder our school is such a happy place to be at! STUDENT LED CONFERENCES SLCs started today with Mrs Hoskings class. It has been lovely to see the pride on the studentsfaces when they share their learning experiences first hand with their parents and then discuss their learning goals for Semester 2. It is not too late to book a time if you havent had the opportunity already. Just log onto the SENTRAL portal and book your time – your child/children will really appreciate it. Bookings for tomorrows session will close at 10:00am. After this time, please contact the office to book a time. Thank you Students WILL NOT be required at school on Friday 28th June except to attend their conference at their nominated time. PLEASE NOTE: NO student assembly this week! Due to Student Led Conferences on Friday there will NOT be a JSC Assembly on Friday. Instead, we will have a combined Assembly on the first day back in Term 3. STUDENT REPORTS Parents will receive their childs Semester One Reports today. Please make sure to ask your child for the envelope that they will have in their bag. CHINESE SISTER SCHOOL At Monday mornings’ assembly Bella, Brooke, Ebony and Shayla presented our school with a framed poem from our sister school - SIP Xinghui School in China. The poem is about friendship and will be displayed in the Office for our school community. I look forward to further developing the friendship with the community of Xinghui School over the coming years.

    INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS AT LOCKWOOD—TERM 3

We are excited to be able to offer both drum and guitar lessons for term 3. David Dewar is our current drum teacher and he will have extra lessons available in Term 3 and 4. Lessons will be on Tuesdays each week. Lessons are $20 per Half Hour and payment is due on each lesson. Student’s will require 1 x Pair of Drum Sticks & 1 x Blank Clear Pocket Folder for Homework. Tyson Hodges will be teaching guitar at Lockwood from Term 3. Tyson has played guitar for over 25 years. He was the guitarist and songwriter for Bendigo based band Ethanol for over 10 years, recording 5 albums and playing gigs nationally. He currently plays with original groups the Tyson Hodges Trio and Band of Cloud as well as 3 other groups playing gigs, functions and corporate shows. He is also a session musician having played on a number of recordings over the years. He began teaching 8 years ago offering tuition in all styles including rock, blues, country, slide guitar, alternate guitar tunings and more. Tyson teaches beginners, intermediate and advanced players at secondary and primary schools. Cost of each lesson is $20.00 for an individual 20 minute session. Students will need to bring their own guitar. Please fill out the expression of interest (attached) and return it to school by Tuesday 16th July if you wish your child to participate in instrumental lessons in Term 3. Payment for both of these lessons is per week direct to the teacher. It can be dropped off to the school office for safe keeping.

child’s name, class, date of absences and reason. Email: the school and provide the staff with your child ’s

name, class, date of absences and reason. Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

    See Your School Zone Online

The Department has released a new website that helps parents identify their local public school online.

findmyschool.vic.gov.au launched on 24 April and shows every school zone across the state. The new website highlights the choice of public schools available to the Victorian community.

If your child is preparing to enter Year 7 and want to know more about the public secondary school options in our area, or you know someone who is interested in enrolling at our school, try findmyschool.vic.gov.au today.

If you have a question about the website, contact the Victorian School building Authority Hotline on 1800 896 950 or email [email protected]
