Aistear:

Instead of Aistear this week I would like the children to practice making jigsaws.

Encourage them to look at the picture on the box to help them. Start by finding all the

pieces with a straight edge and make the frame of the picture. Then make the rest of

the jigsaw. (Send me a picture if you like). Making jigsaws help develop basic skills such as shape

recognition, concentration, goal setting, patience, hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills due to the

precise nature of matching each piece exactly. All of which will stand children in good stead for school. It

also gives the child a sense of achievement when they have completed the jigsaw.

Revise all spellings on Thursday. Test on Friday.

Maths Sheet 1. Please ensure your child knows the ‘Odd and Even’ ehyme sent last week off by heart as

this will help them in 1st class.

**Please note: When looking at double digit number and figuring out if it is an odd or

even number it is the last digit (units) that we need to look at e.g. 25 (5 is an odd

number so as 25 ends in 5 it is an odd number too), 18 (8 is an even number so as 18

ends in 8 it is also an even number) and so on.

Take a photo of this sheet when you are finished and email it onto me.

Maths Sheet 2. Please ensure your child knows the ‘Odd and Even’ ehyme sent last week off by heart as

this will help them in 1st class.

Colour each type of animal the same colour e.g. all the chicks yellow, all the cats orange

etc. Then look at each type of animal. Do all the chicks have a buddy/partner? There

are 8 chicks (they all have a buddy, therefore 8 is an even number). Cows=3 (one cow

has no buddy and is left out on his own, therefore 3 is an odd number).

Page 8: 25/5/20-29/5/20 - Lisronagh National School - Lisronagh ......Senior Infants Plan of Work 25/5/20-29/5/20 Dear Parents/Guardians, ... Maths: As we have finished the Planet Maths book

Maths Sheet 3. If you don’t have a printer, your child could practice writing the numbers and

words on a blank sheet of paper.

Maths Sheet 4. This is a new skill/concept for your child. They may need your support with this. Today they will

be counting how many jumps it takes to get to a given number. Practice the concept orally with

them first. 4+___=7 . “I am on 4 how many jumps do I need to take to land on 7?” etc. Get them

to use their numberlines from school. Encourage them to put their ‘sticky finger’ on 4 and their

other index finger on top of their ‘sticky finger’. Then jump on until they get to 7. How many

jumps did they take? Get them to count out loud as they ‘jump’.

Maths Sheet 5. Revise yesterday’s new concept. Play ‘Tables Champion’ with your child. Ask them lots of

questions orally like 5+__=7, 3+__=6 etc. Encourage them to use the same technique as

yesterday by using their number lines and ‘sticky fingers’. (Email me a picture of your

completed work.)

Na Dathanna (The Colours).

- Point to a colour and ask your child to say the name of it in Irish.

- If you want to challenge your child the adult could point to the colour and

ask ‘Cén dath é sin?’ (Pronunciation ‘cane dah ay shin?’) which means ‘What

colour is that? Your child should answer ‘Sin ____’ (pronunciation ‘Shin

___’) which means ‘That’s ___’. The children should be familiar with using

this language as we did it frequently in class.

- Revise the colours each day this week please.
