continent’s extreme poor; Low Human Development 156:1792. Africa’s most populous nation: 158 m (2011); projection: 2050 – 390 m; 2100 –

730m; 50% urban dwellers; 10 % of the world’s children out of school; 10 % of the world’s children and maternal deaths

3. Youth the Driver: 70% of the population is young ( < 30 yrs); median age 18.5 yrs; Nigeria must create 25 m jobs over the next ten years

4. Weak health system reflected by IMR-94.35 deaths/1,000 live births; Life expectancy 51.56 yrs (2009; Total fertility: 4.73 children born/woman; HIV/AIDS: 3.1%
