TNC Luncheon News

June - If this has to be cancelled we will rebook this speaker! Kian Kamas - Tulsa Chief Economic Development Kamas holds a Master of Science in Comparative Public Policy from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute. As Chief of Economic Development, Kamas will be responsible for leading the city’s comprehensive economic development strategies aimed at adding jobs and growing the workforce. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Make sure to put the September luncheon on your calendar now!! September 10th TNC’s Annual Interest Group Luncheon We will be highlighting our interest groups and this will be the time to put a friendly face with the name of each of these groups. This is the BEST way to get to know other newcomers and we strongly endorse joining the one or two or three that sound interesting! This year we are not asking the interest groups to put together a basket. Instead, we will have fun ways to win special prizes donated by the club. You don’t want to miss!!

Hi All, Because of the current situation with the virus we are canceling the May luncheon. If restrictions are lifted for the summer months, the plan is to meet at 3 different locations other than the country clubs. The Bistro of Seville was our plan for June, again if the Mayor has lifted restrictions, the Gilcrease Museum in August, and maybe McNellie’s South in July when they start taking reservations again. I am looking forward to our future luncheons when we can safely gather together again. Stay healthy and safe. Janet Gingerich

Members Thoughts on Quarantine

Carrie Stuart– Grote , Co-President

Facebook Memes and humor have buoyed my spirits daily! There’s an adorable 13 year old schnauzer I discovered by the name of Pluto, and she’s my super heroine. She speaks through the helium induced squeaky voice of her owner, and is a guaranteed giggle. Check her out at “Pluto Living” on YouTube. There are maybe a dozen recordings and she’ll brighten your day.

Barbara Pittman, Social Media Chair

Soooo - when the shelter at home proclamation came out - Jeanne Russell and I are - ok - we can do this - just think of all the money we will save by not being able to go and claim our two favorite seats at The Redrock Canyon Grill bar! We will be rich! Not so much!!! All our money is going to Reasors and other grocery stores for food - and we actually have to cook! We’d rather be drinking our dollars away - lemon drop and chocolate martinis are much more fun than cooking!

Cindy Truby, Chatterbox Editor

This quarantine has taught me about ZOOM. It’s an app that allows you to video chat with many people at once. We had a birthday party for my daughter on it. Four families cooked the same dinner and we ate together via ZOOM and we were on for two hours ending with singing Happy Birthday. I’m so hooked on it we are now having virtual cornhole games with my daughter and her husband. And, yes the women are winning! For reading I would recommend “The Last Mrs. Parrish” by Liv Constantine. It’s light and easy to get through.

Cherree and I have cooked recipes from all over the world! Most good with the exception of her Moroccan eggs! A little bit out there! We also went for a drive and saw Nothing Bundt Cakes had a tent up so we drove through and picked some up and left them on the doorsteps of a few friends! We talked in the driveway for a minute with each giving us new life . It was a great way to support our sponsor and play Easter bunny with a treat!

Janet Gingerich, Luncheon Chair

As awful as the virus pandemic is, I believe that something good comes from every situation. I have felt a sense of peace since the shutdown started. I believe that this is the pause that we needed to stop and reflect on our lives, blessings, etc. On a lighter note, my husband keeps bringing home more vegetables than I can go through. I now have 7 zucchini’s in my refrigerator. Needless to say, I will be making zucchini bread this afternoon. I hope everyone is safe and healthy. I am looking forward to a future TNC gathering.

Amy Tuggle, Book Club Interest Group Leader

I miss everyone so much! Especially our time together each month for book club. Just saying hello and checking in on everyone. Hope you are well and staying in – perhaps, reading some wonderful books.

My mom (Fran Cutshall) and I have put out a garden. She and my older daughter, Abby, are in charge of research and development (they are studying the Farmers’ Almanac). :) It’s going great, with one exception – we accidentally froze the cucumbers. Mother Nature wasn’t quite finished with the cold weather.

The girls are finishing their school year with Jenks doing distance learning (with only an “I’m bored!” muttered here and there). I’ve been working on crafts to go in our Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. Lots of sewing and crocheting. And, we have three super cute foster kittens. So – if you know of anyone in the market for a furry friend, please let me know.

Lately, I’ve read the following: Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Hidden Figures, and Junkyard Planet. Currently reading: The Viral Storm (equal parts fascinating and frightening!) Looking forward to when we can get together again! Happy reading!

Kimberly Drymon, Split the Pot Chair

Ordering groceries on line for pick up, and I meant to order four limes. Instead, I ordered four bags! I guess we

will make limeade!!!

Elizabeth Aguirre, Board Advisor I don’t have any one particular story that stands out. Let’s just say that it’s been a very interesting time with my husband working from home. I have felt quite off-balance and besides my gardening that is saving me from the madness, my nightly “Quarantini” keeps me straight.......which on some nights I’ll have the 1st one at 3:00pm.

Linda Straight , TNC Secretary A couple of weeks ago I went to the grocery to get toilet paper and a few items. With a limit of one (6 pack) of toilet paper, this customer had 4 packs in her cart. The clerk kindly told her to take all out but the limit – one. The customer hastily threw one back on the shelf and scurried down the aisle with 3 packs left in her cart. The grocery clerk ran after her and grabbed the 2 additional packs and said, “I told you one per person”. The customer said something unkind and went on her way. I took my one pack and hurried down the aisle. Suggestions for reading:

Dreamland Burning” by Jennifer Lantham. This historical novel brings the Tulsa race riot of 1921 to life and raises important questions about the difficult state of US race relations both yesterday and today. You will recognize places such as Greenwood area and Maplewood District.

“When We were Mermaids” by Barbara O’Neal, a moving tale of 2 sisters, an ocean of deceptions and a search for the truth. The book started out slow but once I got into it, I had a hard time putting it down.

Sandy Fraser, Interest Group Chair Don’t miss John Krasinsky’s Some Good News (on YouTube). It is a fabulous way to lift your spirits. I have also added the Marco Polo app to my app repertoire. It is just another fun way to communicate with the grandchildren. So fun! Check it out.

Nancy Foster , Membership Chair This time at home has made me realize just how far behind I am on projects (sewing, ancestry research, trying new recipes, cleaning closets, filing pics, etc). My husband found me in the closet at 3:00 am going through clothes and shoes for the Goodwill pile. LOL. My sleeping habits are pretty messed up as the clock doesn't mean much to me anymore since I no longer have places to go and people to see, but this time at home has allowed me to reach out by phone to friends and family who I normally just text once in a while. I have enjoyed talking to everyone and really catching up on their lives. In this day of technology we just don't reach out to others to have those great in depth conversations like we used to. My family has also downloaded the Houseparty app to have a little bit of game fun (I so miss Hand and Foot and Mah Jongg). Can't wait till we are all back together again. Stay safe and healthy.
