We make this prayer through Christ, Our Lord. Amen. At this very difficult time, the St Joseph’s School community would like to offer their heartfelt condolences to Margaret and Tom Nothdurft on the tragic passing of their beloved husband and father, Robert. Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

God of might, giver of every good gift,

put into our hearts the love of your name,

so that, by deepening our sense of reverence,

you may nurture in us what is good

and, by your watchful care,

keep safe what you have nurtured.

We make this prayer through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.

At this very difficult time, the St Joseph’s School community would like to offer their heartfelt condolences to Margaret and Tom Nothdurft on the tragic passing of their beloved husband and father, Robert. Robert had a long involvement with the school both as a Father and as a Volunteer. We ask you all to keep Margaret, Tom and Family in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen

CUDDLY FARM On September 24th we will have some special furry visitors coming in to join us at St Joseph’s. A timetable and more information will follow on Facebook when it gets closer. STUDENT ABSENTEES After 9.30am each day the Office sends a text message to the parents of children who are absent and who have not advised the school asking them to contact us and let us know why their child is absent. This is a safety precaution to ensure that children who left their homes in the morning have made it to school safely. We would ask that parents respond to these messages appropriately ie by contacting the school either by phone or by our online absentee system. It is a legal requirement that you send a signed note or an online absentee form to the class teacher within three school days to explain the absence. This makes it much easier for staff if they do not have to follow up missing notes. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR BUS FAMILIES A reminder to our Bus Families to ensure they notify us asap of the following:

• Your child is not going to be on the bus; • Your child is on the bus on a day that they don’t normally take it; • Your child is on a different bus route than usual; or

Any other changes to your child’s bus travel. SCHOOL FEES All fees are payable in full by the end of Term 3 and may be paid in installments. By this time of the year, everyone should have almost finished paying off their fees if paying by installment. If this is not the case and you experiencing problems meeting your school fees payments, please make an appointment with our Bursar Natasha Butcher to work out a payment plan. ALLERGY AWARE SCHOOL REMINDER We would like to remind families that St Joseph's is an allergy aware school and we request that parents DO NOT include peanut butter, nutella and nuts in your child’s school lunches.

KINDY 2020 If you or other family members or friends have a child ready for Kindy next year and would like them to attend St Joseph’s, please call the School Office or drop in and place their name in our Kindy 2020 list. Interviews for Kindy 2020 are taking place at the moment, so it is important to put your child’s name down early. Children born between July 1st, 2015 and June 30th, 2016 are eligible to attend Kindy next year.

CANTEEN SPECIAL

During Term 3 the Canteen are selling mugs of warm milo for 50c before school. Milo

will only be available between 8am and 8.30am.

SCHOOL SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES A reminder to parents and carers that the school has a private Facebook Group, and also a public page for updating the community on the good work going on at St Joseph’s. Our Social Media pages are a good way to keep up to date with what is going on in the school. Don’t forget that with Facebook algorithms you will need to like some of our posts so they will appear in your news feed. Year 2 News

We are always very busy learning in Year 2. At the moment we have been spending a lot of time learning about

Comprehension Strategies. Comprehension Strategies are the tools that we use to help us understand what we read.

We use these skills in all of our learning areas and they have been coming in very handy while we have been

researching our STEAM Project about the Moon. We are developing a toolbox of Comprehension Strategies that we

can use whenever we are reading. We have already learnt about the strategies of prediction, connecting and visualising

and we are about to start learning about questioning. We have already been talking about different types of questions

that we can ask and answer such as Robot Questions, Detective Question, Judging Questions and Inventor Questions.

It has been great fun using our strategies whenever we are reading and we have been reading A LOT! Some of our

favourite novel study books at the moment are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Ninja Kid and the most popular one

at the moment is The 13 Storey Treehouse. Pop in to Year 2 any time and we would love to read you a little bit of our

favourite story.

St Joseph’s Faction Athletics Carnival 2019

The St Joseph’s Faction Athletics Carnival was held last Friday 30th August and was a great day. The weather looked

threatening all week but as the races commenced, the clouds cleared and the sun came out! The effort put in and

the team spirit showed was as always second to none. I was so proud of all the students and hope everybody

enjoyed the day. For the first time since 2012, Moore went home with the shield followed by Mackillop. Yuat was

right on their toes! One of the highlights of the day was the parent/student/staff relay!!!

The parents who volunteered to help were brilliant, the day could not have gone ahead without you. My sincere

thanks to you for supporting this event. Thank you also to the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who came

along to cheer on your kids. The atmosphere was wonderful.

Thank you to all the staff for your hard work on the day; you always do such a fantastic job on such a hectic day.

Lastly, best of luck to the students who will be competing at the Interschool Athletics Carnival on the 20th

September in Dalwallinu.
