2018 Communicable Disease Conference: Adapng to Changing Tides May 21-23, 2018 Holiday Inn Resort Wrightsville Beach | Wilmington, NC About the Conference: Public health professionals today are faced with challenges such as the opioid epidemic, infection prevention of multidrug resistant organisms (MDROs) and outbreaks of emerging diseases in the face of uncertain support and funding. Public health professionals need to be aware of the latest communicable disease information to guide program management, learn from best practice examples from state and local public health leaders and have the educational tools needed to respond to communicable disease needs in their community. This conference provides an opportunity to share evidence-based information and best practices for addressing public health problems and communicable disease investigations of public health significance. The availability of state subject matter experts to dialogue with local partners fosters professional development and improved surveillance and investigation. The content of this conference is intended to partially satisfy requirements for both Local Health Department Accreditation and selected Agreement Addenda. Target Audience: Communicable disease program staff in local North Carolina health departments, physicians, physicians’ assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and medical directors. you set program priorities and identify supportive re-sources.

VPD SOS: Tips for Staying Afloat Single cases of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) such

as flu, mumps and pertussis are challenging enough. This session will discuss actions for handling increased work-load during outbreaks of these diseases.

Bugs and Critters from Murphy to Manteo: The Science Behind the Control Strategies Public health practitioners are often asked for guidance

on vectors such as ticks and mosquitos. This session will highlight the work being done across North Carolina to help you answer those itchy questions.
