It may be October, but the snow falling yesterday sure made it feel like it's closer to Christmas time. I wanted to remind you of special events coming up at Crestview as the holiday season approaches. November 18 - Commitment Sunday. Crestview will be going to one worship service every Sunday at 9:30AM beginning on November 18. On Commitment Sunday, you will be encouraged to commit to the amount of resources and time you will give at Crestview during 2019. We encourage everyone to turn in their commitment card! November 25 - Hanging of the Greens and Chrismon Sunday. During worship, we will hang the greens, learn about Chrismons, the meaning of these signs and symbols, and how they are a part of practicing prepa- ration during the season of Advent. During Sunday School, everyone will be invited down to the fellowship hall to help make the Chrismons that will hang in the sanctuary through the Christmas season. Due to low attendance, there will not be a Blue Christmas service this year. However, we will still set up a Memory Tree in the sanctuary - anyone who has recently lost a loved one is invited to bring an ornament to hang on the tree in remembrance. (If you want to get your ornament back, please make sure that it is clearly marked with your name.) December 1 - Church Bazaar. I hope you are already working on crafts for the church's annual Bazaar. (I have a scarf or two in progress!) This is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season, enjoy some delicious cookies and holiday treats, and start some early Christmas shopping. December 9 - Children's Program. The kids of Crestview will share a Christmas program with us during worship. This is always a delightful event, and you don't want to miss seeing our amazing kids leading us through the Christmas story. December 16 - Cantata. The choir has already begun working hard on this year's Christmas cantata. As we continue to journey through Advent, the cantata will help us to prepare for the coming of Christ and the com- ing of Christmas. December 24 - Christmas Eve. Worship will be at 5PM on the evening of Christmas Eve. All children present will be invited to participate by wearing costumes and coming forward as remember the Christmas story (no rehearsals required!) This was a huge success last year, and we look forward to amazing participa- tion again this year. This service will also include singing Christmas Carols/Hymns, a Christmas Eve sermon, and of course, the sharing of the light of Christ through candlelight. Doorstep Newsletter Article November, 2018 First, I want to thank everyone who helped to make our inaugural Neighbor Helping Neighbor Walk/5K Run a success. We were able to raise $6,000 to help with agency expenses going into the last quarter of 2018! Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 5, 2019 for our 2nd annual event!! It is true what people say… the older you get, the faster time goes by! 2018 has flown by and we are already mak-ing plans for our Christmas Store for adopted families and individuals. This year, Doorstep will again adopt 250 households from the Christmas Bureau. There are over 775 individuals within these households, and we provide a Christmas for all. This year the Christmas Bureau will take applications for 7 days between October 22nd and November 2nd. Sign up is for our neighbors in need who cannot afford to provide a Christmas for their families. These are families and individuals who meet the federal poverty guidelines. They are working, but not making a living wage; they are disabled, they are struggling to provide the most basic of needs for their families, and need a little extra help at Christmas. Our Christmas Store is a unique experience and different from anything else we do at Doorstep! We need your help with gifts (please see page 5 for our list of needs), monetary donations to purchase the food, and volunteers to help during the five day process. The Store is such an uplifting experience, and you cannot help but feel good about your time spent volunteering there! Please mark your calendars for December 9th – 13th, and watch for our flyers on specific days and times for volun-teering. Doorstep’s Christmas Store is possible each year in large part because of the generosity of our member congregations and their members. Neighbors helping neighbors is what Doorstep was founded on, and what we continue to do today! Lisa Cain Executive Director Doorstep, Inc. PLEASE NOTE: At the Administra-tive Council meet-ing on Monday, Sept. 17th, as a Council, there was discussion, a vote

taken and the decision made that be-ginning Commitment Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, Crestview Church will move permanently to one Worship service at 9:30 a.m. with Sunday School fol-lowing at 10:40 a.m. Please help us share this news with others!

During church Sunday, Oct. 14 the kids, using empty back packs collected money for our "Back to School" fund and they collected almost $190!!! The Education com-

mittee is changing up the way we do our Back to School event next year and we're trying to raise money throughout the year to help with the purchase of supplies next summer. We'll take 3 more special offer-ings - in January, April and July so stay tuned and thanks for your help!!! The quarters the kids put in the "tube" during Children's Sermon each Sunday will go towards the purchase of school supplies also - thanks for your continued support!

10:30a - 12:00p: Saturday, October 27!

“Trunk or Treat” along with fun activities! Rain or shine - all ages welcome. We would love to have plenty of volunteers, lots of “trunks” for kids to treat, and folks to visit with the community in general! We also need lots of CANDY donations! Those can be dropped off in the Church Office during the week. See Teresa T. to volunteer!
