Celebrating15YearsofGivingOnNovember10,acrowdof300communityresidents,localphilanthropists,artistsanddonorswerewelcomedbythestARTSomethingLakeCountyHostCommitteetoawarehouseartpartywherewecelebrated15yearsofgivingandcommunityimpactacrossLakeCounty!AdozenlocalartistscreatedartlivewithproceedsbenefitingtheReuschéOperatingEndowment.ThegatheringalsohighlightedLakeCountymusicians,libations,foodandsocialimpactpartners.
LeaveaLastingLegacyWhenColoradoresidentTomSanderreachedouttoLCCFoverayearago,heandhiswifeJennyHenkealreadyhadasolidunder-standingofhowcommunityfoundationscouldsupporttheirlegacygiving.Having
beenajournalistinFlorida,TomfrequentlycoveredstoriesaboutCommunityFoundationofBroward.Similarly,JennybecameawareoftheenormousvaluecommunityfoundationsbringthroughherworkattheJohnS.andJamesL.KnightFoundation.
AlthoughJennyandTomdonotliveinIllinois,theirtiestoLakeCountyarestrong.BorninChicagoandLaGrange,TomandhisyoungerbrotherRobertspentmuchoftheirchildhoodinthecityandnearbyHinsdale.Yearsago,RobertwasdiagnosedwithAspergerSyndrome.HehasbeenaresidentofLambsFarmfor38yearsandhasbenefittedgreatlyfromthesupporthereceivesthere.
Thefamily’spositiveexperiencewithLambsFarmultimatelyinspiredthemtoreachouttoLCCFtoexplorehowaportionoftheirestatecouldbeusedtobroadlyfundorganizationshelpingdevelopmentallydisabledresidentsofNorthernIllinois.DuringarecentvisittoIllinois,TommetwithstafftolearnmoreabouttheFoundation’sworkanddiscussitsareacommunitypartnersthatprovidesimilarservicestoresidentslikeRobert.
