Dr. Ed Galindo, of the Yaqui Tribe, is a faculty member at the University of Idaho, Associate Director for
Education and Diversity for the NASA Idaho Space Grant Consortium, and an Affiliate Faculty Member for both Idaho
State University and Utah State University.

Friday, April 7 6-9 p.m. American Indian Heritage Family Night and Craft Workshop
Location: Edminster Student Union Building, Lake Coeur d’Alene room (FREE: OPEN TO THE PUBLIC)
Hands-on craft workshop for all ages. Make dream catchers, drum necklaces, rain sticks, pony bead necklaces, Yakama

Saturday, April 8 10:30-2:30 p.m. Gourd Art Class
Location: Edminster Student Union Building, Driftwood Bay room
Cost: $40 Students: $20
Learn the basics of gourd craft. Create a one-of-a-kind piece of art using simple techniques and tools. You will also

Dr. Ed Galindo
Lecture Topic: ISTEM (Indigenous Science Technology Engineering Math),
Dr. Galindo (Yaqui, American Indian) is a faculty member at the University of Idaho, Associate Director for
Education and Diversity for the NASA Idaho Space Grant Consortium, Affiliate faculty member at Idaho
State University (Biology Department) and Affiliate faculty member at Utah State University (Physics
Department). Dr. Galindo has extensive education and research in working with Native American students.
While serving as chairman of the science department on the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Reservation, he
was twice elected as the National Indian Teacher of the Year, awarded by the National Indian School
Board Association. Ed is very proud to currently be serving as a board member with the Goldwater
Foundation (President Obama appointment). Most recently, Ed was honored to be inducted as a lifetime
(Sequoyah Fellow) member of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES).

work with a wood burner and learn to use ink and leather dyes . All supplies are in-
cluded. You will leave the class with a completed gourd.
