“Many, many thanks to the Dayton Serra Club and the Dayton Council of the Knights of Columbus for the generous gift of $5,000.00 to the Archdiocesan Vocations Office. I am deeply grateful. “In recent years, God has blessed the Archdiocese with a significant increase in the number of men discerning the possibility that God may be calling them to the Priesthood. This also presents financial challenges, of course, and your generosity makes a great difference. “May god bless you in 2016. I hope to join you on October 10. “Sincerely yours in Christ, “Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr “Archbishop of Cincinnati”

11. OSC State Warden Remarks. State Warden Droesch discussed the following:

(i) Keep your eye on the prize. Thanks to everyone for all that the councils are doing.

(ii) The 2016 Silver Rose Program. Beginning in March 2016, six Silver Roses will begin their journey across North America, from Canada to the United States to Mexico. The 2016 Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose – One Life, One Rose Program will conclude on December 12, 2016, on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. 2016 marks the 56th year of the program, which began in 1960 to honor the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. The program has continued since then as a project of councils and Fourth Degree assemblies in several jurisdictions. Today, six Silver Roses travel through North America exemplifying Knights of Columbus devotion to Our Lady and commitment to the Culture of Life. For Ohio, the Silver Rose will be in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati from July 4th to July 7th, specifically, at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains on July 5th. Contact State Warden Droesch, if a council or assembly would like to host the Silver Rose.

(iii) Super Cash Bonanza Charity Raffle Ticket Distribution. The distribution will be on Saturday, February 27th, at 3pm at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 East National Road, Vandalia, and at 7pm at St. Michael Elementary School cafeteria, 11136 Oak Street, Sharonville.

12. Supreme Council, Membership and Program Coordinator (MPC), Region 8, Remarks.

(i) MPC Joe Ramirez lead a discussion based essentially on the following excerpts from Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson’s article in the December, 2015, edition of Columbia magazine, entitled, “Our Mission to Build the Domestic Church and Strengthen Parish Life: Through a New Orderwide Initiative, the Knights will better serve Catholic Families and the Church.” Supreme Knight Anderson writes, “Therefore, I am announcing a new Orderwide initiative to strengthen both our parishes and our families. It is titled Building the Domestic Church While Strengthening Our Parish. This new initiative builds upon our past programs and accomplishments. At the same time, it requires that we do some things differently in the future. First, this initiative requires that we accelerate the process of moving away from the home association system and moving toward more parish-based councils. We should no longer expend valuable resources supporting home associations whose activities are outside the mission of the Knights of Columbus or of the Church … Second, our Building the Domestic Church While Strengthening Our Parish initiative requires that our parish-based councils move toward greater integration into the life of our parishes. Councils should begin to phase out the duplication of programs that may compete with parish activities … One important area where this will occur is youth-based parish ministry … During the fraternal year, councils that formulate their activities through the Surge with Service Program should give priority within the Family Activity category to those activities related to our Building the Domestic Church program; they should give priority within the Church Activity category to those programs which more fully integrate their council’s activities within the life of their parish; and they should give priority within the Youth Activity category to those programs which strengthen or support parish-based youth ministry. They should also consider how their activities in the

categories of Council, Community and Culture of Life may be enhanced through greater participation by the wider parish community.” Supreme Knight Anderson’s article in the January, 2016, edition of Columbia magazine, entitled, “Our Service to Youth,” provided additional guidance with respect to Knights of Columbus youth programs and the Building the Domestic Church While Strengthening Our Parish initiative.

(ii) MPC Ramirez asked Chapter councils to use the booklet, Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive, and as needed, the Handbook for Councils Using Home Corporation Facilities. With respect to the Knights of Columbus Board of Directors position that the Knights of Columbus will no longer be the chartered organization for Boy Scout troops, among the many aspects MPC Ramirez discussed, he referenced the exchange of letters between Supreme Knight Anderson and the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS); the letter exchange is available on the NCCS website at http://www.nccs-bsa.org/national/KnightsSupportingScouting.php. For additional questions, Chapter councils should e-mail him or State Warden Larry Droesch.

13. OSC State Deputy Remarks. State Deputy (SD) Robert Collins, who thanked all for their prayers during his recent illness, congratulated Chapter President Ed Ponder, who also is the Grand Knight of Council 10215, for his Council’s fundraising efforts in raising $21,000 for an ultrasound machine for Healthy Beginnings, an organization which provides quality prenatal care to expectant women. Additionally, SD Collins discussed: (i) membership incentives, including that Ohio is showing true growth in membership for the first time in six years; (ii) the upcoming Super Cash Bonanza Roadshow ticket distribution and he asked for membership directors to attend as another membership incentive program is to be unveiled to go along with the other great incentives currently available; and (iii) Knights of Columbus insurance, especially its long term care program.
