Knights Of Columbus To Host First Annual Golf Tournament
The Knights of Columbus Mother Seton Council 6724 will host its inaugural Derby on the Greens golf tournament on Saturday, May 3 at the
Bloomingdale Golfers Club. All of the proceeds will go to support the council’s programs benefiting not only Nativity Catholic Church, but
also the surrounding Brandon community. The funds will also support other council programs such as the Veteran’s Affairs Voluntary Services
(VAVS) at the veteran’s hospital in Tampa, The Annual Youth Soccer and Basketball Challenge, Lopez School for Exceptional Kids in Valrico
and assistance for homeless veteran families in the immediate Brandon community.
Marc Andersen of Brandon is the Grand Knight for the council and his involvement with the organization began because he loves giving back
to the community and assisting those in need.
“As a Grand Knight, my primary focus is to build upon the council’s relationship with Nativity Catholic Church and the Brandon community,”
Andersen said.
Last year alone the council was able to provide support to over 65 homeless Veteran families in the Brandon and surrounding communities.
The golf tournament will be held on the 140th Running of the Roses. The tournament is four-man best ball format.
“We will have prizes for first, second and third place teams in addition to a long drive and closest to the pin contest,” Andersen said. “Ladies
that attend the event can win prizes for the most fashionable derby day hats.”
Registration for the event starts at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch and dinner will be provided and the awards ceremony will
take place after dinner. “We are still looking for assistance with food sponsors and hole sponsors,” Andersen said.
The council hopes to raise $7,000 with the tournament. The council will also be hosting a Veterans Barbeque on Saturday, May 10 at the
veteran’s hospital in Tampa. “Twice a year we hold a barbeque for all the veterans and their families,” Andersen said. “Everyone is welcome
to attend and spend time with the men and women who have served our country.”
To learn more about the golf tournament or to register for the event, visit the council’s Website at KofCBrandon.com or call Andersen at
720-7599. The Bloomingdale Golfers Club is located at 4113 Great Golfer’s Pl. in Valrico.

Help support our Veterans. All our Knights are
encouraged to bring a donation to each meeting, so
that this will become a habit before leaving their
homes. Deliveries are made on a regular basis and are
used by the needy almost immediate. These items are
a necessity for our heroes, who reside at the VA
Hospital and our Homeless Veterans. The "spirit of
patriotism" that our Knights present to these brave
men and woman is a part of making their lives more
meaningful. Fellow Knights there is great need here.
We can help others. This is the reality of our times.
Please be generous to our Veterans .Bring what you
can to our meetings. Without your cooperation we
cannot be there for these men and women, who have
sacrificed for all of us.

“Campaign for People with Intellectual
Disabilities”
One of the most popular and successful programs
conducted by Knights of Columbus state and
local councils for the benefit of people with
intellectual disabilities is the fund-raiser in which
councils collect donations outside stores and on
street corners. In appreciation, the donor is
offered a candy bar, often a Tootsie Roll. The high
visibility of this program has led to the campaign
being referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive.”
The nickname is understandable, but misleading.
The Knights of Columbus has no official tie to
Tootsie Rolls or their manufacturer. In fact, many
types of council participate in the same fund-
raising drive, but distribute other items.
References to this program should highlight the
good the money does, not advertise a candy bar.
For these reasons, it is strongly recommended
that this project be promoted as the “Campaign
for People with Intellectual Disabilities” rather
than the “Tootsie Roll Drive.”
THANKS to all those Knights who worked that
rainy weekend. Despite the bad weather we were
able to profit $950.00
Our next weekend is May 17 and 18 (Saturday and
Sunday) from 11AM to 7PM on Saturday and from
11AM to 5PM on Sunday located at
Publix Kings / Rt 60
We need a brother Knight to handle May 17 & 18.
LET’S SEE IF WE CAN BREAK OUR RECORD FROM
LAST YEAR
A Family Corporate Communion
Our next Corp Communion will on May 11, 2014. Holding a
corporate Communion will bring your families together to celebrate
our faith through receiving the Eucharist.
Attending Mass and receiving communion as a group will also serve
to make our council and its members visible to the parish
community.
This type of program provides both the spiritual and social aspects
for our members to enjoy and it’s a great opportunity to promote
fraternity among our council’s families.
Fourth Degree honor guard will also be present at this event. We
will, reserve pews in the church for council families.
The Corp Communion will be held at the 8:30 A.M. service. We will
be attending A breakfast at the Elks lodge after the mass service.
Please take this opportunity
The come out and support your council.

Being Catholic Today
As members of the Catholic Church in today’s world, believers are called upon to share their faith with the wider community. As we
follow in the footsteps of Christ, we witness to our faith in how we raise our children, how we interact with friends, family and
coworkers, and how we engage in modern culture. Through the centuries, no church has done more to care for our brothers and sisters
in need than the Catholic Church.

Prayer For the Sick
Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn
to you in this time of illness. O dearest comforter of the
troubled, alleviates our worry and sorrow with your gentle
love, and grants us the grace and strength to accept this
burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We
place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you
restore your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the
grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you
do, you do for the love of us. Amen.

Sacraments
Sacraments The whole liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice and the sacraments. (CCC 1113)
While we believe that human life is infused with the sacramental goodness of God, the Catholic Church has defined seven sacraments
- instituted by and through the life of Jesus Christ. It is through the experience of the sacramental ritual that we are infused with
God’s grace. The Sacraments nourish and strengthen us as they express and build up our faith.
What is a sacrament?
This is an important question for Catholics, as our celebrations of sacraments are defining beliefs of our Catholic Faith. Sacraments,
our understanding and the celebration of them, often set us apart from other Christian denominations.
Sacraments reveal to us the living God. In the person of Jesus the Christ, God fully revealed himself to us. Jesus, born of Mary the
ever-Virgin, came into the world to show us the living God. Jesus is the primary sacrament of God. As Jesus prepared his followers,
the Apostles, for his ascension, he instructed them to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son and of the holy Spirit.” (Mt28:19) The Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles at Pentecost, transforming them, empowering
them with the same power as Jesus, sending them out, to make Jesus known and present throughout the world, by their teaching
and their actions.
Sacraments celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church carry on this Tradition of making Jesus known – through words and actions.
We proclaim Jesus’ saving action in our lives – his death, resurrection and ascension to New Life. Sacraments through words
proclaimed by priest and community, and the actions of pouring water, anointing with oil, blessing and breaking of bread, sharing
of wine, laying on of hands, and exchanging vows makes Jesus’ presence real and alive in our midst.
Sacraments bring to us new life, mercy and reconciliation, the power of a renewed spirit within us. Sacraments transform us by
God’s grace, His presence in our lives. Sacraments of initiation bring us into the life and family of God. Sacraments of healing, Jesus
the Divine Physician, restores health to our souls and bodies. The sacraments are also moments of anointing and setting us apart
for vocation in life – Sacraments of vocation set us on a path of holiness leading us to ways of transforming our families and
communities into holy communities of justice and peace.
