Wayne County Community College District isexcited to offer Kids’ College Camps to youth 4-17years of age. Our goal is to develop and expandstudents’ interests, stimulate creativity, provide uniquelearning opportunities and a fun experience on acollege campus.

Our camp offerings are taught in a hands-on fashionwith an accent on fun. We offer topics from collegeprep, sports, performing and traditional arts, readingand writing, science and math, and computers, toleisure activities like ballet or scrapbooking. Enrolltoday for a positively unforgettable learningexperience that is sure to last a lifetime!

CLASS CAPACITYKids’ College Camp programs are self-supporting and require a minimum number of students enrolled before aclass will run. To avoid inconvenience to students, Kids’ College Camps with low enrollment will be cancelled one week in advance to avoid disappointment. Refunds will be generated to participants of cancelled camps.

EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECKAll Kids’ College Camp instructors directly working with students have passed a criminal back-ground check.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURESFor safety reasons, students under 18 years of age are not to be on campus unless accompanied by an adult orattending Kids’ College Camp programs. Your child’s safety is our number one concern.

Students must be picked up within 15 minutes after dismissal of their program. Repeated late Pick-upoccurrences will result in termination from Kids’ College Camp with no refund.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITYAll youth students must present a signed waiver to their instructor before programs begin. The release waiver isconveniently located in our Continuing Education schedule book.

PHOTOGRAPHSThere will be photographs taken of students during programs. The photos may be used in future promotionalmaterials. If you prefer we not use your child’s photograph, send a letter to:School of Continuing EducationAttn: Kids’ College Camps801 W. Fort StreetDetroit, MI 48226

BEHAVIOR GUIDELINESProper standards of conduct are necessary to protect the health, safety and well being of all Kids’ College Campstudents. Behavior that might interfere with the educational process is unacceptable. Students will be respectful toother students and staff. Students will be careful with college equipment and property and the property of otherstudents.

Parents will be contacted if their child is involved in any unacceptable situations during camp.

Appropriate college personnel, reserves the right, at any time, to exclude any child from activities due to failure orinability to follow as directed, any and all rules and/or policies for participants.

COMPUTER USE AGREEMENTCertain camps may use the World Wide Web (www) or internet as part of their curriculum developed by theinstructor. With this educational opportunity comes responsibility, to be shared by the student, parent/guardianand college staff.

Students will use the software that pertains to their camp. They may use the www/internet when the instructorgives the permission. Students should tell their instructors immediately if they encounter information that isinappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable.

Students shall not give out personal information while online. Parents will be contacted if their child is involvedin any unacceptable situations while using the computer.

Please note that Kids’ College Camp participants are only supervised while students are enrolled incamps. No extended supervision (longer than 15 minutes between consecutive camp times) is availablebetween 9AM–4pm for those not enrolled in camps during any part of the day.

ACT and SAT Review (Ages 14-17)Math review for standardized testing is highly needed for students about to enter higher institutions. This highschool course will diagnose, refresh, reintroduce ,and strengthen forgotten concepts together with test takingstrategies. Some areas of coverage will include arithmetic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and more. Junior Lifeguard YMCAWCCCD in partnership with the YMCA offers a full YMCA of the USA Lifeguard training course that includesAmerican Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and First Aid, equipment-based rescues foraquatic environments, accident prevention, and decision making skills. Participants must be 16 years old bythe end of the class. Attendance, full participation, and successful completion of written tests and performanceof all water skills are required. Participants must be able to: Tread water for at least 2 minutes Swim 100 yardsof front crawl, Swim 50 yards each of: front crawl with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke withhead up, inverted breaststroke kick with hands on stomach. Perform a feet first surface dive in 8 to 10 feet ofwater and then swim underwater for 15 feet .
