With 43 years of service, Denise has served as den leader, den leader coach, assistant Webelos leader, assistant Scoutmaster, troop and crew committee member, Sea Explorer ship mate, district training chair, roundtable staffer, day camp director, assistant district commissioner, council pow wow chair, University of Scouting staff member, and council shooting sports committee member. At the regional level, she has served on National Youth Leadership Training and Wood Badge Course Director’s Conference staffs, and she is a five-time Cub Scout Trainer’s Wood Badge staff member. A National Camping School veteran, Denise has served on Cub Scout staffs 15 times and Boy Scout staffs 11 times. She has also been a Wood Badge course director, Philmont Training Center faculty member, and four-time national Scout jamboree staff member.

Denise’s Scouting recognitions include the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, Distinguished Commissioner Service Award, Scouter’s Key, and Philmont Training Center Master’s Track Award. She is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

Denise takes special pride in her two Eagle Scout sons, Mark and Robert, and her Eagle Scout husband, Larry, each of whom lives daily by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

A retired administrative assistant, Denise enjoys photography, pyrotechnics, and shooting sports including archery and firearms. She is a USA Archery Level 3–NTS Coach, an NRA Master Training counselor, and an American Red Cross instructor.

Denise also enjoys visiting her grandchildren, Colin, Carly, Kaitlin, and Tori. She is a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. Denise and her husband, Larry, live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

With 30 years of service, Larry has been Webelos den leader, Scoutmaster, associate Advisor, district chair, council advancement chair, council commissioner, Wood Badge course director, regional Wood Badge Course Director’s Conference chair (twice), national jamboree contingent leader, national jamboree visitor experience staff member, subcamp unit commissioner and program chair, and two-time national Scout jamboree and world Scout jamboree assistant Scoutmaster. He has served on the National Commissioner Task Force as recruitment and retention chair, and he is a seven-time Philmont Training Center faculty member.

Among Larry’s many Scouting honors are the Scoutmaster Award of Merit, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, Distinguished Commissioner Service Award, Commissioner Arrowhead Honor, Doctorate of Commissioner Science Award, Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award, and Philmont Training Center Master’s Track Award.

In reflecting on his volunteer service, Larry describes his proudest achievement as “a 30-year series of continuing opportunities to help better serve more young men—and women—through Scouting at the unit, district, regional, and national levels.”

Larry is executive vice president and chief financial officer of BrightClaim, LLC, a national provider of insurance property and claims services. He has served his church, Roswell United Methodist, as a Sunday school teacher and on its Board of Stewards; he is the recipient of the God and Service Award. With his wife, MAE, Larry has co-chaired the Wittenberg University Parents Association.

Larry and MAE have three Eagle Scout sons, Dan, Matt, and Ben; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Syndey, Evelyn, Hunter, Asher, and Logan. Larry also enjoys woodworking and road biking.

In his 24 years as an adult Scouter, Don has been den leader, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, district chair, Cub Scout day camp co-chair, district commissioner, council executive board member and vice president of marketing, council camporee chair, activities and civic service chair, two-time Wood Badge staff member, National Camp Accreditation Program authorization writer, area outdoor adventure chair, and area camp assessment team member for 20 years.

His Scouting recognitions include the Silver Beaver Award, Scouter’s Key, Unit Leader Award, Cubmaster Award, New-Unit Organizer Award, Community Organization Award, Speaker’s Bureau Award, Doctorate of Commissioner Science Award, and James E. West Fellowship Award.

Don’s proudest Scouting experiences are having his son, Brent, achieve the Eagle Scout rank, going on a Philmont trek with his son, and while with the Hometown News staff having the opportunity to help several hundred

Scouts put together television news stories at five national Scout jamborees. Don has chaired the jamboree audio/visual public relations division and repeatedly served as jamboree Hometown News TV/radio staff member.

An Emmy Award–winning reporter and anchor at WATE-TV in Knoxville, Don has won numerous national and state journalism awards. He has also chaired the Better Business Bureau of East Tennessee and the Consumer Counseling Service. An Army veteran and commissioned officer, Don is a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

He and his wife, Lynn, are the parents of Brent, an Eagle Scout. Don is a Methodist lay speaker, former lay leader, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. He believes “the legacy you leave is the positive impact you make in the lives of young people.”

With nearly 40 years of service, Fred, an Eagle Scout, has served as Webelos den leader, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, unit commissioner, district commissioner, district training chair, council vice president of Cub Scouting, council commissioner, and Wood Badge course director; in Area 5 as membership chair, program impact chair, training chair, and Wood Badge coordinator. He served on the 2014 Summit Assessment Team and two world Scout jamboree International Service Teams, and he is a national Scout jamboree deputy for the Messengers of Peace Day of Service.

Fred’s Scouting recognitions include the Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit, and Doctorate of Commissioner Science Award. He is an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. As a youth, he received the God and Country religious emblem.

The Scouting experience in which Fred takes the greatest pride is raising two successful children, his sons James and Jonathan, who are both Eagle Scouts.

Fred is the husband of Marian and the owner of Fred’s Fix-it and Repairs in Greer, South Carolina. He serves his church, Greer First Presbyterian, as an elder and a member of the church choir and handbell choir. In service to the youth of his community, he is a volunteer at a local child development center.

With 20 years of service, Cassie has served as ship committee chair, council Venturing training chair, training volunteer for the council Sea Scout fleet, and council marketing and publicity volunteer for the fleet. She is a member of the National Sea Scout Support Committee and chairs its Program Content subcommittee.

Her Scouting recognitions include the Silver Beaver Award, council and national Venturing Leadership Awards, Wood Badge, Seabadge, Seabadge Underway, and Sea Scout Experience Advanced Leadership training.

The Scouting experience Cassie is most proud of is the continued success, achievement, and accomplishments of the youth of Sea Scout Ship 502, Invincible. “I saw my child bloom,” she notes, “because of the challenges given her by the Boy Scouts of America. It is odd to receive an award when the program has given me so much over the years.”

A retired teacher, Cassie now serves youth as the Texas training director for Destination Imagination. She is a consultant regarding the nature and needs of gifted children and in the field of creativity.

Cassie and her husband, Alan, have two daughters, Heather and Cynthia, and three grandchildren, Richard, Cynthia, and Audrey. Cassie coaches her grandchildren’s Destination Imagination teams. She also enjoys traveling, painting, historical research, and Bible study. She is a member of Graceview Baptist Church.

With nearly 30 years of service, Tom, an Eagle Scout, has served as Webelos den leader, Scoutmaster, troop committee chair, Venturing Advisor, district and council training committee chair, council vice president for technology, National Council representative, regional Venturing committee member, National Camping School staff member, national Scout jamboree staff member, national and world Scout jamboree Venturing crew Advisor, and Philmont Training Center staff member.

Among his Scouting recognitions are the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, council and regional Venturing Leadership Awards, and Venturing Advisor Award of Merit. He is an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. As a youth member, he achieved the Arrow of Light Award, served as Order of the Arrow lodge chief, and received the God and Country religious emblem.

Tom takes special pride in, as he puts it, “having the knack to create opportunities for young people to prove to themselves that they are more than they can imagine.” He adds: “I am proud that I can share some measure of my fortune through training adult leaders to believe in the children they serve. I am proud that I, like my father, have been a Scout.”

Tom is a technical leader at Cisco Systems. He and his wife, Tammy, have two children, Joshua and Danielle, and a grandchild, Hailey. Tom has also served as a Girl Scout leader.

Mark, an Eagle Scout, has served as Cubmaster, den leader, troop committee member, Scoutmaster, crew Advisor, council executive board member, council commissioner, executive vice president for operations, vice president of properties, and vice president of outdoor adventure. A member of the region executive board, he represents it on the national Conservation Committee and the William T. Hornaday Awards review committee. Mark serves on the national Properties and Sea Base committees and chairs the Summit Bechtel Reserve facilities committee. He is national chairman of the authorization committee for the National Camp Accreditation Program.

His Scouting recognitions include the Cub Scouter Award, Cubmaster Award, Den Leader Award, Scouter’s Training Award, Scouter’s Key, Scouter Award of Merit, William D. Boyce Award, Philmont Training Center Master’s Track Award, Commissioner Arrowhead Honor, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, James E. West Fellowship Award, and Second Century Society. He is Powderhorn trained and a Wood Badge course director. A Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, he is a Distinguished Eagle Scout and a NESA life member.

Mark has led his troop to all four high-adventure bases and has been to national Scout and world Scout jamborees as Scoutmaster, assistant Scoutmaster, council contingent chair, staff member, and Contingent Management Team member.

With degrees in civil engineering and business administration, Mark is vice president of Design and Engineering at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. He and his wife, Fifi, have a daughter, Emily, who is a Silver Award recipient in Girl Scouting; and two Eagle Scout sons, Evan and William.

With 30 years of service, Bill, an Eagle Scout, has served as Scoutmaster, assistant Scoutmaster, crew Advisor, district committee member, council vice president for program, council camp director, Wood Badge course director, area Project COPE/climbing chair, camp assessment team member, national Scout jamboree Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster, and world Scout jamboree Scoutmaster.

His Scouting recognitions include the Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit, Scouter’s Key, Scouter’s Training Award, Scoutmaster Award of Merit, Venturing Leadership Award, and Order of the Arrow Founder’s Award. Bill is an Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

The Scouting experience he is most proud of is the design and construction of the Project COPE/climbing facility at Bayport Scout Reservation in Jamaica, Virginia, operated by the Colonial Virginia Council.

Bill is president of the St. George Brewing Company in Hampton, Virginia. He is a member of the Chuckatuck Ruritan Club. Bill and his wife, Linda, have two children, Jennifer and William Jr.; and a grandson, Liam.
