Welcome to the fourth annual CFA Community Engagement and Fire Awareness State Forum. This years forum follows on from the success of this event held in Macedon in 2011, Creswick in 2012 and Bendigo in 2013.

As a local leader in your community, your passion for fire prevention and community education is inspiring. This forum encourages you along with other like-minded CFA members from across Victoria to network, share ideas and build on your community engagement knowledge to enhance fire safety initiatives in your local community.

Your participation this weekend is highly valued and is vital to continuing the movement of brigades engaging their local community. Both prevention and suppression is core

business for CFA members, and this years theme Working Together to Prepare Our Communities is indicative of the role we all play in both aspects. Your contribution is fundamental to increasing our ability as an organisation to engage with and support our community members to build more resilience and understanding of fire safety and awareness.

I hope this forum will provide you with information, ideas and encouragement to enhance your knowledge, skills and ultimately your communitys fire awareness. Thank you for your leadership, enthusiasm and determination in working together to prepare our communities across Victoria. Keep up the great work.

    EUAN FERGUSON AFSM Chief Officer

I am very pleased to once again be a part of a forum that celebrates, supports and encourages the important and often innovative community engagement work that is being undertaken by CFA members across Victoria. This forum has proven to be a valued opportunity that is fundamental in supporting and continuing to develop confident and capable members in this area.

Research shows that brigade members are a highly trusted source of information within their community. This emphasises the important

role you play in working with your community to educate and engage with them on their local risk. This work is vital in building community capacity, capability and ultimately resilience.

This Forum acknowledges that we need to support and encourage each other in order to educate, engage and strengthen our communities. A strong brigade underpins a resilient community. Enjoy this weekend. Share your stories, challenge your thinking and make new friends.

    MICK BOURKE Chief Executive Officer
