1. Is the Seven Hills Summer Program available to Seven Hill’s students only?No, all children from the entire Greater Cincinnati area are invited to attend.
2. May I choose to attend only the weeks that fit into our schedule?Yes, all programs are offered on a week-by-week basis and, additionally, children have the option to register either for a full-day or half-day program. Weekly sessions begin on Monday, June 17th, and continue through Friday, August 9th.
3. Do you offer extended hours?Yes, in addition to the standard day, 9:00 AM–3:30 PM, there is an Early Bird option from 7:30–9:00 AM and After Care from 3:30–6:00 PM.
4. What age does my child need to be to attend?The Seven Hills Summer Program serves children from 3 years of age up to 18.
5. What type of programs do you offer?Seven Hills offers a wide range of enrichment programs including academics, fine arts, adventure field trips, sports, and technology. All programs are led by Seven Hills’ faculty or professionals from our community. The Early Childhood programs are based on weekly themes designed to spark imagination and natural curiosities through hands-on learning experiences. You know how the typical summer goes for your children, a week of “school’s over!” exhilaration followed by two months of searching for activities to fill the days.
Well, the Seven Hills School Summer Program is anything but typical. And it can transform your child’s summer from uninspiring to unforgettable.
For starters, the Seven Hills Summer Program shares many of the same aspects as our school – it’s hands-on, adventurous, energetic, creative, and offers a full spectrum of activities, from 3-D vehicle design and animation creation to a Mammoth Cave camping trip and outdoor excursions.
We invite children of all ages – from three to eighteen – onto our campus over the course of the summer to pursue their interests and discover new ones. Our small groups and seasoned staff – many of whom teach full-time at Seven Hills – provide individual attention and support to your child as she explores, climbs, constructs, and learns her way through summer.
You can sign up for one week or sign up for all eight. Either way, you can be sure that summer isn’t the same at Seven Hills.

Come jump into a great book with us! This is a multi-sensory week of visual, kinesthetic, and auditory activities. Children will be engaged in their reading and writing skills! Honeybees ages 3-4
The Honeybee programs are designed with the youngest campers in mind. The weekly special interest programs provide the framework for relaxing, fun filled activities that support children’s social, emotional, and academic growth. With low student-teacher ratios, engaging themes, projects, and a mid-morning snack, each day offers unlimited opportunities for learning and fun! Julie Brackett and Becky Swain will teach the Honeybee morning programs.
The morning themes extend into the afternoon as campers build upon the morning projects and enjoy outdoor water play, a mid-afternoon snack, and rest-time. Lunch may be brought from home or purchased for $25 a week.

Abracadabra! Poof ! Campers will become practicing magicians as they explore the amazing world of magic and hocus pocus while exploring with wild and wacky experiments. Morning Program: $175Full Day: $300

High Up in the SkyJuly 8–12
3… 2… 1… Blast off ! Young astronauts explore the mysteries of the solar system. Children will discover how astronauts work in space. The sun, the moon, the stars, and gravity are only a few of the things that we will learn about in this adventurous week.Morning Program: $175Full Day: $300
Stingerbees ages 5-6
Campers’ imaginations and natural curiosities will be sparked by enrichment activities based upon the weekly themes offered throughout summer. Campers will participate in a variety of fun, hands-on learning experiences in a relaxed, summer time atmosphere. Stingerbee campers will also have time to enjoy a mid-morning snack and recess with their friends. Lindsay Pietroski and Amy Kulhavik will lead the Stingerbee morning programs.
New for the Stingerbees this summer will be expanded afternoon experiences outside the classroom. The weekly schedule will include swimming, computer lab, drama, library and storytime, nature and outdoor education, along with games and sports.
Lunch may be brought from home or purchased for $25 a week.

Instructor: Russell WhiteEnter a space where creativity and the joy of acting are celebrated. Imagine working with your peers in an acting workshop every day for four days. Welcome to the Acting Lab where students with all levels of acting experience are invited. Greet each day’s Acting Lab challenges as we explore the power of theatre and acting together through improvisational games, scene and character creation workshops, and other exciting activities that engage our bodies, voices, brains, feelings and senses. You’ll connect with new and old friends while stretching the limits of your imagination and exploring the wonder of creation. Amazing RaceJune 24–28 | 9am–12pm | ages 7-12
Instructor: Tracy HickenlooperIf you love challenges, competition and excitement then you will love the Seven Hills Summer Amazing Race. Students will travel to different locations each day to compete in teams on an array of stimulating, physical and mental tasks, which will portray a global race around the world. Racers will use their powers of observation, memory and creativity to find answers, crack codes and solve clues to complete two world tours! They might even learn a little about politics, geography, currencies and some of the world’s most famous landmarks, and they will have a whole lot of fun doing it!fee: $175

Create Your Summer ages 7-12 and middle & upper schools
With our “Create Your Summer” format children may select specific enrichment programs to pursue their interests or discover new ones. Our age appropriate group offerings share many of the same aspects of our School – it’s hands-on, adventurous, energetic, creative, and offers a full spectrum of activities throughout the summer. Our small groups and seasoned staff provide individual attention and support to your child. The flexible scheduling is designed to meet a variety of needs along with our extended hours and lunch options. Please review the table on pages 4 & 5, which provides an overview of all programs and more specific information is available in the program descriptions.
3-D Vehicle DesignJuly 15–19 | 12:30–3:30pm | middle & upper
Instructor: Jason KnarrUsing Blender (a powerful, open source computer modeling program) students will concept, build, and animate as many vehicles as their imaginations (and schedules) will allow. Emphasis will be on creativity and modeling mechanics. Any and all vehicle types can be explored. We will leave the plausibility of the creations for the engineers to figure out.fee: $175

Acting AdventuresJuly 15–19 | 9am–12pm | ages 7-12
Instructor: Russell WhiteGet ready for The A.C.T.ing Adventure in the Red Barn. From the first day, students in this acting camp will jump into drama fun by becoming part of the “Acting Creation Team” or A.C.T. Together with new and old friends, these Acting Creation Team players or A.C.T.ors will play theatre games, create improvisations, and invent original scenes. With imaginations in gear, the A.C.T.ors will also explore acting fundamentals, including teamwork, concentration, character development and creative expression through movement and sound. Finally, the Acting Creation Team players will create a sharing performance which they’ll present for family and friends on the final day of camp. A.C.T. now and let the fun begin!fee: $175

Instructor: Ashley BryanHow many times in your life have you heard “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Here is the perfect opportunity to learn about a variety of career options along with speaking to various people from different professions. What type of education and experiences can lead to a fulfilling career? fee: $175
Celtic Culture CampJune 17–21 | 9am–12pm | ages 7-12
Instructors: Riley School of Irish Music TeachersStudents will receive a tin whistle and learn to play several traditional Irish tunes. They will learn some ceili dance steps and how to draw celtic knots and figures. The class will include an intro to Irish folklore, mythology and song. fee: $175

Instructor: Andy WardWhether you are a beginning or advanced player, this individualized program will provide hands-on experience to either learn the basics of the game up to advanced tactics, opening theory, and positional play. Kings, Queens, and Pawns - everyone join the fun!fee: $175
ClaymationJuly 8–12 | 12:30–3:30pm | middle & upper
Instructor: Jason KnarrThis year there were more stop motion academy award nominated films than ever before. This class will closely explore the art of stop motion as students will create their own armature, sculpt their character, and then bring it to life with cameras and computers. Fundamental animation techniques and skills will be taught and practiced while creating a short film to possibly submit for next year’s academy consideration!fee: $175
Computer MagicJuly 22–26 | 9am-12pm | ages 7-12
Instructor: Jason AmburgeyStudents will be led through different tasks using computers that will allow them to have fun while learning. They will utilize different programs and web applications that not only provide exciting activities and projects, but also help with school assignments. Instructor: Matt ShifleyStudents bring the wildest figments of their imagination to life through the art of animation. Students will learn drawing skills to create their own cartoon characters and then study the optical illusion of animation through the construction of flip books. Students will collaborate and use computers to produce their own original animated short.fee: $175
Art on the GoJuly 22–26 | 12:30-3:30pm | ages 7-12
Instructor: Matt ShifleyArtists often seek inspiration outside the confines of their studio. Students of this program will learn drawing techniques in the classroom then they will pack them up to travel to different sites around the city. With a drawing board in tow, students will embark on field trips to seek inspiration and develop their skills of drawing from observation. Sites will include The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, Newport on the Levee, Eden Park, and Krohn Conservatory.fee: $175
Basketball CampJuly 22–26 | 9am–12pm | ages 7-12
Coaches: Brad Redford, former XU player, and Tyler McIlwraith, Seven Hills Varsity Girls CoachThis camp will focus on learning and improving fundamental skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork. It is important to have each child gain a better understanding of the game as well as working on ball handling, footwork, defense, shooting, and passing.fee: $175

Instructor: Doug HuffThis camp is designed for the student who is interested in solving problems, designing a product, and willing to work collectively on a team. Students will learn everything from how to market their product to negotiating tactics. The camp will include off-site field trips and guest speakers from prominent Cincinnati businesses.

Instructor: Becky SwainTime to think outside the box! One of the best mediums for creating handmade costumes are cardboard boxes. Come and create your own unique costume, which are fun to make and wear. There are endless possibilities for the costume of your dreams.

Financial Literacy & Stock Market GamesJune 17–21 | 9–12pm | middle & upper
Instructor: Doug Huff“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” -Chinese Proverb In this camp we specialize in introducing young people to financial education through innovative teaching and real world experience. Instructor: Gabe KalubiIn this camp, students will have an opportunity to learn about the French language, and cultures of the Francophone world. From our classroom, students will explore the games, customs, and cuisine of the French-speaking world.fee: $175

Instructor: Andrew MazzaIf you like games, this program is for you! Campers will spend the week participating in various games including corn hole, bocce ball, ladder golf, “mat” ball, cards, board games, and more. Instructor: John KraussFore! This is a great opportunity to learn the game of golf or to improve your skills. PGA professionals will provide daily instruction on putting, short game, and the complete swing from correct set-up to full finish. After each daily lesson, we will play a nine-hole Par 3 golf course such as Little Miami, Reeves, Meadow Links, and World of Golf. Participants must bring their own clubs.fee: $300
Gymnastics CampJuly 22–26 | 9–12pm | middle & upper
Coaches: Sue Bone & Todd TveitaOur gymnastics camp, led by coaches Sue Bone and Todd Tveita, will provide a well- rounded physical workout. The campers will be instructed on four Olympic events, which include: uneven bars, balance beam, tumbling, and the vault. The state of the art tumble track will be used during instruction. Instructor: Scott CagleIt is widely known that introducing students to programming at a young age not only teaches students about computers and communicating online, but it also helps develop other important skills, including math and logic. In this course we’ll spend the week using tools specifically designed to introduce kids to programming.fee: $175

Instructor: WEBBY Dance CompanyWEBBY Dance Company is offering an action-packed Hip Hop/Jazz camp! Come dance to the hits of Bella Thorne, Selena Gomez, Taio Cruz and many, many others! The camp includes warm-ups, stretching, and age-appropriate music for dance routines. Props such as tambourines, twirling ribbons, maracas, and much more will be utilized in camp. Instructor: Jason KnarrThis class will ‘focus’ on learning to use a digital camera, practice effective shot selection, and utilize computers to edit our shots. Each day we will go explore a different area of our city and take our cameras to capture it. We will return to edit our shots in Photoshop and compile our work into a portfolio.fee: $140

Instructor: Mimi StrickerStudents will be shown and guided through still lifes, drawing landscapes, architectural drawings, and abstract drawing–charcoal, pencil, and pastels. Campers will also be encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to realize their inner artist.fee: $175
Kids to the RescueJuly 29–August 2 | 12:30–3:30pm | ages 7-12
Do you love animals? This class will show you ways to take care of your own pet, as well as how you can make a difference for pets that have been rescued, too. With guest speakers and fun projects, you will explore creative ideas that can help animal rescues in your area. You will visit a recue facility and meet animals that have been rescued.fee: $175
LEGO RoboticsJune 17–21 | 9am–12pm | ages 9-12
Instructor: Brian BerningWhat could be more fun than creating and building a robot? Campers will be introduced to robotics concepts through teamwork and problem-solving challenges. Each member of the group will assume a role and must work together with team members to solve the assignments as we simulate real-life robotics and robotics systems.fee: $175

You will learn high quality magic tricks by the current president of Cincinnati’s magic club. Instructor: John KraussOutdoors is the place to be this summer! An all-day camp this year, we will explore one or more locations around town that has something fun to enjoy outside. Hiking, canoeing, wake boarding, rock climbing, and biking are just some of the awesome outdoor activities that we will do. Also new for this year... the week will also include an overnight camping trip to a nearby state park departing on Thursday morning and returning by 3:30 on Friday. Instructor: Jason KnarrPhotoshop and other computer programs are great tools for creating original artwork. This class will explore how to make your ink and pencil drawings come to life with color, shading, and special effects. Create lush backgrounds for your characters to live in and experiment with new and creative ways to layout your comic panels. This class is specifically designed for those comic artists that have experience in creating comic line art or drawings. We will take pencil art, clean it up and generate new line art digitally and then add color, texture, backgrounds and effects.fee: $175

Instructor: Jason KnarrEver wondered what you’d look like if you were purple? How about wearing a Buick for a hat? This camp will allow digital artists to experiment with photo manipulation. Each day we will capture images with a digital camera and then return to the computer lab to edit them in crazy ways with Photoshop. Mammoth Cave CampingJuly 15–19 | ages 9-12 Monday – Thursday: camping trip Friday: 9am–3:30pm
Instructor: John KraussOvernight camping! This is a full-week program that includes a four-day, three-night camping trip to Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. We will depart after lunch on Monday and return on Thursday evening. This will be a busy week filled with many outdoor activities such as setting up our campsite, cooking over a fire, hiking, and canoeing. We will also, of course, be exploring the longest cave system in the world! Sign up and be prepared to have fun, make new friends, experience nature, and learn about ecology during this exciting week. Students will spend their time outside exploring high and low as they find inspiration in nature. From trees to bugs, nature’s colors, textures, patterns, and compositions make up the beautiful world around us. Together, we will create nature inspired art, from photo collages and natural-textured prints, to earth art installations left in place for time, weather, and wildlife to continue to work on! Instructor: Princeton Review StaffThe Princeton SAT review course is designed to prepare juniors and seniors for the SAT. This course provides personal attention, guaranteed results, top instructors and the best materials available to help students improve their SAT scores. There will be 14 total sessions, which includes 10 class sessions and 4 full-length practice tests. A satisfaction guarantee is promised! If a student attends all sessions, does all the work assigned and is not satisfied with his/her score, The Princeton Review will provide that student with a refresher course at no charge. Instructor: Mitzie MoserStudents will learn how to cross-stitch, needlepoint and make “friendship” bracelets. In cross-stitch we will use the basic canvas, a hoop, needle and cotton floss. This will be a beginning design that can be framed or finished into a pillow. In needlepoint we will use canvas, needle and wool yarn. Friendship bracelets will include, round, diagonal, “v” shape and “fish” shapes.fee: $175

Instructor: Meredith BrownDo you know what “burgeon” means? How about “malfeasance”? “Nascent”? “Bumbershoot”? Enroll in Vocabulary Challenge, and you will! This fun, high-energy class will use games, writing, and puzzles to enrich each student’s vocabulary. These fun learning activities will also instill key vocabulary acquisition techniques, including learning word roots and developing memorable mnemonic devices of all sorts. Travel Back in Time & Outer SpaceJuly 8–12 | 12:30–3:30pm | ages 7-12
Instructor: Jocelyn CoulterThe 1977 NASA sent Voyager 1, a space probe, into outer space. We will visit the Cincinnati Observatory to check out the telescopes and learn what it takes to leave our planet’s atmosphere. Students will imagine themselves as a space probe designer or engineer. What would their space craft look like... and more importantly, what would they choose to put in it to send into outer space? Voyager 1 included a record, a gold record with audio recordings from Earth to who or whatever it might have come in contact with. Students will learn about this golden record and then make their own! We will record sounds of their lives on this planet today that they wish to send into the unknown! Together we will create our own album (on a CD) to share with the rest of the universe... and to take home to their mothership to enjoy for the rest of summer!fee: $175

Permission: I grant permission for my child to participate in The Seven Hills School Summer Program as described, including swimming and traveling on trips for field study and other off campus activities.Photograph Release: I give permission to The Seven Hills School Summer Program to release the camper’s photograph to be used by the School for promotion of The Seven Hills School Summer Program.Food Allergies: Children with food allergies must provide their own lunch.Extended Day: AM and PM are not drop in services. Late fee of $1.00 per minute applies after 6:00 PM. Deposit: There is a $50.00 per program deposit due for registration prior to May 17, 2013. All deposits are non-refundable. Application Fee: One-time application fee for non-Seven Hills families is $50.00.
