Honors Courses Honors courses are intended to provide motivated
and academically qualified students with significant academic challenge. These courses are designed to promote high level thinking and encourage inquiry and self-directed learning. The honors course curriculum is altered to provide additional depth of content, accelerated pacing, and advanced concepts. Students are expected to have advance level thinking skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking.
Registration for honors courses should be done on an individual basis with each student’s strengths and needs considered; some students will register for one honors course and some may register for all that are offered. Please know that both decisions are acceptable and should be based on meeting your academic needs.
English 9-1 & 9-2 (1 semester each)Chemistry 9 & Physics 9 (1 semester each)Geometry (2 semesters)Advanced Algebra (if geometry completed in grade 8)Advanced Placement Human Geography (1 semester)
Multiple pieces of information are used to make the enrollment decisions. The goal is to enroll each student in the course(s) where he/she will be challenged and experience success. Performance indicators used include standardized test scores, previous participation in advanced/enriched classes, science pre-assessment data, grades, attendance, and feedback from middle school teachers.

What does GPA mean?Grade Point AverageDo grades count in 9th grade?Cumulative for all 4 years of HSWeighted system for AP and CIS courses
for a grade of C or betterA = 4.0 or 4.5B = 3.0 or 3.5C = 2.0 or 2.5D= 1.0 NC = 0 or No Credit
Class RankCHS uses the Decile Rank system of 1-10
where 1 is the highest and 10 is the lowest
Our decile rank is calculated by grouping the grade point averages for all students within a grade into ten, equal-size populations based on the most recent cumulative grade point average.
Example: 500 students in a class then 50 students will share rank 1 and represent the top 10% of GPAS, 50 share rank 2, etc.
Rank is used for college admission decisions.
See You In August!!!
