Florida District Leaders,

My name is Trina Sessions, and last month I was elected to be your 2013-2014 Florida District Governor. I am honored and blessed have to opportunity to serve you. For those of you that don’t know, being Governor is a fancy way to say that I get to lead, speak, train, and represent Key Clubbers in our District.

One of the main jobs of a governor is to choose a governors project for Key Club’s to focus on throughout the year. My Governors Project is called CAPE’s (Character Advancement Programs for Education), and is about developing moral values and character into those in our communities. This is a very simple project and can be implemented in many ways. From random acts of kindness, to implementing anti-bullying programs at an elementary school, to teaching children the importance of gratitude - each of these projects fall under the idea of building character. Character is a building block to creating a better society. I want Key Clubbers to become role models throughout all of our communities. Be on the lookout for the complete service directory with projects that fall under CAPE’s!

I look forward to working with you all this year. I want to make the Key Club experience a great one for every single member. If you have any new ideas, or issues in your club that you would like to talk about, please feel free to email me at any time. I will do my best to make sure each member is satisfied with our organization.

United in Friendship and Service,

Trina Sessions

Bring on...

The Mighty Mighty Florida and District held their District Education and Leadership Conference from April 4-7, celebrating 75 years of Key Club. Our farewells were given to the 2012-2013 District Board, new district positions were elected, appointed and endorsed, Key Clubbers engaged in workshops, awards were given for a years worth of extraordinary service, and all attendees had an unforgettable Key Club experience. Some exclusive guest speakers and entertainers were Senator Bill Nelson, former International President, amputee Josh Sundquist, Malcom Lewis, Key Club’s first International President who had attended Palm Beach High School (1943-44) with his wife, Mildred Lewis, and MTV’s Miami Raw Dance Crew. We all owe a special “Thank you!“ to Amanda Hernandez, 2012-2013 DCON Chair, and all contributors for making such aspectacular event possible. What a way to kick off the new year! Every memory of this past year is cherished and will be longed remembered. With a new year comes new possibilities - given such opportunities, we can make this the best year yet!

The Eliminate Project has been a Kiwanis project for the past few years, geared towards raising money to give vaccines to mothers in unfortunate parts of the world in order to save their lives and their children life from Maternal and Neonatel Tetanus (MNT). Vaccinations are only $1.80 each, but it takes every-one’s contribution to save as many lives as we can. What better way to emphasize The Eliminate Project in our homes, schools, and communities than by having a week directed toward TheEilimate Project! Each day has a goal for all Key Clubbers to follow, By participating in these goals, we are not only maximizing awareness of The Eliminate Project, but extra funds are being collected to help put an end to MNT.

Monday, May 6Spread the Word, Save a Life: Share a photo on Facebook, tell your friends, or even tell it to your local media - the more people who know about the Eliminate Project means the more lives that could be saved. It will take everyone’s contribution to bring expand The Eliminate Project to it’s fullest potential, so spread the word soeveryone can make a difference and save a life from MNT!

Tuesday, May 7Around the world in 540 minutes: Kiwanis International has raised the bar for all of it’s Service Leadership Programs. It’s new goal is for all members to raise $5.40 on this day, which means that over 834,000 mothers could be saved from MNT and we’d have reached the goal of raising over $1.5 this year! Your club can partake in various fundraising activities this day, have a bake sale, or have a contest to see who can raise the most.

10

“MNT kills nearly 600,000 newborns and mothers every year”

“MNT deaths are commonly caused by lack of access to immunization

and prenatal care services“Wednesday, May 8Advocate to Vaccinate: This day is directed toward your student body, and staff. Talk to your principal about holding a student assembly to raise awareness of The Eliminate Project in your school, or talk to your club about having a table set up to teach students about MNT and how they can prevent it from taking away lives.Create flyers, give handouts, or simply talk to your school about how Kiwanis and UNICEF are teaming up to put an end to MNT!

Page 12: 2013-2014 May Sunshine Source

Thursday, May 9Give-It-Up Day: It only takes $1.80 to save a mother and her baby from MNT. Today, instead of buying a pack of gum or a bottle of soda, give it up, and, instead, use the money as a donation to The Eliminate Project. Get your friends and family to participate, as well -together, we can eliminate!

Friday, May 10Eliminate YOUR Way: Here’s an opportunity for you to create your own contribution to end the week! This can be done individually, as a club, as a school, or as a community. You can create a project, host a fundraising event: YOU can eliminate MNT your way!

“Because together, we can eliminate MNT”

For Eliminate Project resources, visit the Florida Key Club website, www.floridakeyclub.org, or talk to your Lieutenant Governor

“MNT has already been eliminated in 20 countries. The Eliminate Project needs more attention to

eliminate it from more“
