Oklahoma Music Teachers Association Organized 1929

Affiliated with Music Teachers National Association

Dear OMTA Members, Exhibitors, and Guests, Welcome to the 2012 Oklahoma Music Teachers Association State Conference! If this is your first time to attend the state conference, a VERY special welcome to you. I hope you truly find some wonderful connections so that you will want to attend again. To those of you who have been coming for a few years or many years, I am so glad to see you once again! The state conference is for me a wonderful way to reconnect with people who mean so much to me and have for many years, in some cases. I know you will find the facilities of Oklahoma City University to be ideally suited for our state conference, and I especially want to thank Terri Hlubek, OMTA President-Elect and Conference Chair, for all of her work in getting the many details of this conference together. A big thank-you to anyone who helped in any way. It takes the work of so many for this event to happen! This year’s theme of “COLLABORATION” seems just perfect, especially in light of all the conflicts in the world we live in. Don’t you think that if everyone in political life could each participate in some musical collaboration, they would all learn how to get along, to make compromises, to assert when necessary, to let someone else make the decision when appropriate, and to come together for a beautiful performance where the sum is truly more than just a combining of the various parts? We are delighted to welcome Anne Epperson from the University of Texas, who will inspire us with many different ways of collaborating. Brad Richter, this year’s commissioned composer, will speak about collaborating with your audience. Many OMTA members will showcase various types of collaborative ensembles for the Friday night concert. Fred Karpoff will show us ways to collaborate with your whole body in his award-winning 3-D Piano presentations. If you enjoy judging, are interested in judging, or have students that will be judged, the IMTF session is your chance to collaborate! We again have great shopping opportunities at the exhibits—be sure to spend some time there and stock up for the coming year. Most importantly, visit with each other! Enjoy the conference! And know that I deeply thank you all for allowing me to serve as your state president for the past two years. Sincerely, Sandra Meyer, OMTA State President
