    INTRODUCTIONTOMETALLOGRAPHY(1DAY)

This metallographic course isideal for those either new to the

field, or wishing to acquire an

    update on current practices.

The course is designed to give

    both practical and theoretical

    training in basic metallographic

    principles and practices.

    Introduction to Metallography

    includes training and practical

    sessions on sample selection,sectioning, encapsulation,

    grinding,polishing, etching

    techniques and the principles

    of optical microscopy.There is a

    maximum attendance of five

    people per month, please book

    early to ensure enrollment.

    Preparation of customer

    samples can be incorporated,

however; please arrange at leastten working days in advance.

    Full course notes and a

    certificate of attendance are

    provided.

MATERIALS PREPARATIONFORMICROSTRUCTURALANALYSIS (3 DAYS)Intermediate course for

    beginners and experienced

    personnel. Up-to-date theory

    and practice of mechanical

    preparation.Preparation of a

    range of sample materials and

    own samples. Etching and

    microscopy techniques for

    microstructural analysis.This

    three day course is constructed

    to address all aspects of

    specimen preparation for

    microstructural analysis, as well

    as optical microscopy and

    hardness testing.The idea is to

    develop a technical

understanding of whathappens when specimens are

    sectioned, encapsulated,

    ground,polished, etched and

    then observed optically.

    Includes extensive practical

    sessions on specimen prepara-

    tion and demonstration of

    analysis techniques, for various

    materials.

    METALLOGRAPHICINTERPRETATION(5 DAYS)

    This course covers up-to-date

    metallographic principles, and

    correlates microstructures with

    material properties. Interpreta-

    tion of microstructures for

    quality performances and the

    role of metallography in quality

    control and failure analysis is

    examined.This course is

    intended for those who have

    achieved some skill in specimen

    preparation techniques, and

wish to extend their ability tothe interpretation of

    metallographic structures and

    the relationship to

    performance.

    Cost:

    595.00 plusVAT for full

    course

    195.00 plusVAT for

    individualdays

    June 21-25

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Anyone who looks at

    microstructures of materials

    including metals, biomaterials,

    minerals,ceramics,bone, teeth,

    wood, glass, paint, composites,

    cermets, PCBs, component

    assemblies and many more.The

    elements of competence tasks

    are based on each delegates

    own material, and therefore,

    needs will vary.This ensures we

    have something for the expert,

    the newcomer and for those

who simply wish to extend their

    knowledge.
