MARION COUNTY’S MOST WANTED BRANDON COOPER Wanted for: Violation of Probation WILLIE FENNELL Wanted for: Violation of Probation JUANITA BARKER Wanted for: Violation of Probation CHRIS DODSON Wanted for: Violation of Community Corrections HUBERT BROWN Wanted for: Violation of Probation Russell sentenced to 25 Years On October 4, Christo- pher Eugene Russell re- ceived his sentencing after being found guilty of Sec- ond Degree Murder, and Aggravated Child Abuse in the death of his 3 month old son, Colin Russell. Ac- cording to Court docu- ments obtained by Marion County Newspapers, Rus- sell was sentenced by Judge Thomas W. Graham to 25 years in prison for two Class A felonies: First- Degree Murder and Aggra- vated Child Abuse. According to the judge- ment, “the defendant, hav- ing been found guilty, is rendered infamous and or- dered to provide a biologi- cal specimen for the purpose of DNA analysis.” The story behind this sentencing began on Satur- day June 23, 2012, after Russell’s son died of “major trauma to the brain.” In a previous article published in the Jasper Journal on July 3, 2012, Sheriff Ronnie “Bo” Bur- nett explained that the in- fant had stopped breathing and an ambulance was called to take baby Colin to Grandview Medical Cen- ter, now Parkridge West. From there, the child was transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.” Burnett stated the doctors at Grandview Hospital contacted authorities, and that Russell was being re- viewed, at that time, as a “person of interest.” During the investigation, the sheriff’s department found enough evidence against Russell to charge was a discussion of the event that ensued on that horrific day in 2012. There was a testimony by Child Abuse Pediatrician Spe- cialist, Dr. Deborah Lowen. She was a part of the team treating Colin at Vanderbilt Children’s Hos- pital. During her testimony, she was asked by District Attorney Steve Strain, if she could label how severe this case really was. Lowen stated, “It resulted in Colin’s death and it doesn’t get anymore severe than that.” “Dr. Bridget Eutenier, who perform the autopsy in 2012, listed the cause of death as a homicide. In the twelve-page autopsy re- port, it notes contusions on the child’s head, injuries that included blood clotting in several areas of his brain, and extensive hem- orrhaging in the optic nerves of both eyes. The autopsy further noted at least 15 fractures of the in- fant’s ribs and a fractured right clavicle, along with a ligament injury on his spine. Joint investigation yields charges in deadly pawn shop robbery and arson In May of this year, Jerry Ridge, owner of Valley Pawn Brokers in Whitwell, lost his life to what we now know was a robbery, but there was much more involved in the case. Firefighters ini- tially responded to a call of smoke at 4:30 in the morning. They had to break windows of the business in order to gain entry. A fire inside the business was put out, then firefighters made the gruesome discovery of Ridge’s body. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Whitwell Police Depart- ment, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office worked jointly on the in- vestigation and subse- quent indictments on Angela Denise Kilgore. According to Detective Gene Hargis, Kilgore has been indicted on all counts including, “First Degree Murder, Espe- cially Aggravated Rob- bery, Employing Firearm in the Commission of Dangerous Felony, Ag- gravated Arson, Theft of Property, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm,” on Monday, October 3. Press Release Courtesy of TBI: Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, working with investigators from the Whitwell Police De- partment and Marion County Sheriff’s Office, have obtained indict- ments for a woman ac- cused of robbing a pawn shop, killing its owner, and setting fire to the business in an effort to cover up the crime. At the request of 12th District Attorney General J. Michael Taylor, TBI Special Agents joined the investigation into a fire at Valley Pawn Brokers on Highway 28 in Whitwell on May 17, shortly after authorities discovered the body of a man, later iden- tified as 72-year-old Jerry Don Ridge, who owned the business. During the course of the case, inves- tigators developed infor- mation that led to Angela Denise Kilgore as the in- dividual responsible for Ridge’s death during a robbery at the pawn shop. The investigation further revealed she was addi- tionally responsible for the subsequent fire at the business, set in an effort to destroy potential evi- dence in the case. On Monday, October 3, the Marion County Grand Jury returned indict- ments, charging the 51- year-old woman with one count of First Degree Murder, one count of Felony Murder, one count of Especially Aggravated Robbery, one count of Employing a Firearm dur- ing the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, one count of Aggravated Arson, one count of Theft, and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. At the time of this release, she remained in the cus- tody of the Marion County Jail.
