Technology is equipment used today to store, get or send information.

We think of computers and computer networks when we think of technology, but it can also be things that distribute, or send information such as television, satellites, parts of cars, and telephones.

What is technology?

Slide 7 / 91

Technology helps us to communicate with one another.

What are some ways we can communicate using our phones?

We can use them for more than just talking.

Ways We Use Technology

Slide 8 / 91

What about the technology you find in a car?

What do people use to figure out where to go or find their

way if they are lost?

How is the satellite related to this?

We use technology in our military to help us track down people and places.

It also helps us move our big ships and machinery.

Ways We Use Technology

Slide 10 / 91

We can think of technology as any equipment we use to

STORE, GET, and SEND information.

What ways do you use technology for fun?

What is technology?

Slide 11 / 91

It can also be used to improve

our health.

Can you think of other ways technology is used in medicine?Talk about this at your table and be

prepared to share your ideas!

Our sense of sight, hearing

and touch are all used when we

use certain technology

devices.

Our Senses and Technology

Slide 29 / 91

Vision

Our sense of sight requires light waves in order to work.

What technologies require the use of sight?

Brainstorm at your table!

Slide 30 / 91

Sense of SightWe need our vision when we use different types of devices.

The device must be using visible light waves. That means the light is traveling to produce or make an

image that we can see. We see these waves as the colors of the rainbow.

Slide 31 / 91

Page 14: 1st Grade - NJCTLcontent.njctl.org/courses/science/1st-grade-science/...2015/11/22  · Slide 1 / 91 1st Grade Information Technologies 2015-11-22 Slide 2 / 91 Table of Contents ·

HearingOur sense of hearing requires sound waves in order to work.

What technologies require the use of hearing?

Brainstorm at your table!

Slide 32 / 91

Sense of Hearing

We hear sound waves. Particles vibrate or move back and forth, allowing us to hear sounds. Technology uses the sound waves in certain devices.

Slide 33 / 91

Sound waves can give us information, even if we don't hear them. Two examples of this are sonar and

ultrasound machines!

Sense of Touch

Our sense of touch requires feeling vibrations in order to work.

What technologies require the sense of touch?

Brainstorm at your table!

Slide 35 / 91

Sense of Touch

When we use our sense of touch, we rely on forces to be able to feel. Not only do we sense patterns on our skin's surface, but we also have to use the positioning of our bodies. There are many technologies which require our sense of touch.

Slide 36 / 91

or leg, you were very limited. Now people can compete in

sports and live very well.
