ANNOUNCEMENTOF THE

ATLANT A MEDICAL COLLEGE.

Th twenty-third Annual Course of Lectures in this In titution will commence,on the second W dnesda:r (15th) of October, 1 0, and close ou the second of March,1881.

Students should benr in mir.d that this is tl:e opening of the REGnAIl ession.Owing to the lengthening of th term of Lectures, the preliminary course has beendispensed with.

The Introductory L tlure will be made by Prof. Miller, nt 11 .\.)1., at theCollege.

For the Christmas holidays, the exerci es will bE: su pended on December 23dand resumed on January 3d.

The Trustees and Faculty feel ecure in presenting the claims of the AtlantaMedical College to those d siring a medical education. They are as ured thatmany causes combine to rcnder this city, of nrar 50,COO p ople, the gr at medical

·ceutre of the South. Her extpnsile railroad conuecti n make it easily acce sible from all point. The energy of hH people in every avo( ation has conferred a prosr rity that is

proverbial. The expenses of livlDg, iu whatevrr st:rle, nre cheaper, we believe, tI an in nny

city of like size in the Unit d tates.Epidemics ar unknown in this city. There is no malaria with us. Those who

have bren atfected by this poison in other localities find here a l' tr at in which theymay recover their health. tudents from tbe North or West may find here, while:acquiring their education, protection from the dangers of a more rigorous climate, without subjecting themselves to lhe risk of other di eases.

Thc climate is healthy nnd bracing, and well adapted for smtaining a studentthrough the physical and mental strain of a COUI' e of medical lectures.

The Faculty avail themselves of every facility for clinical and didactic teachin/!; ot only does Atlanta, with a large proportion of inhabitanfs dependent oncharity for medical attention, afford a vast amount of clinical material, but heroCentral position and rnilroad facilities draw from a di tance a great number of interestin~ ca es that may be presented before the cIa s.

The Faculty constantly and zealously labor to utilize all these advantages in.placing the Atlanta Medical College among the foremost in imparting a TUOROUGH

.AND PIIACTICAL KNO\l'I.EDG~; of medical science in all its principles and details. They claim that its prosperous condition and constantly increasing classes for :rearspa£t are the .highes.t evidence of the achievement of this object.

MEDICAL CLINICS.

GYN.1ECOLOGY.

SURGERY.

Announcernent.6

The Professor of Surgery will utilize the immense amount of clinical materialin these diseases, by special lectures, selecting cases for demonstration to the class.

In addition to the regular didactic course, Gynrccological Clinics are heldweekly. Diagnosis by sp culum, probe, digital touch, etc., etc., together with themost approved and recognized plans of uterine and intra·uterine treatment, arepracticed, and their relative merits discussed before the class. Advanced student,.are requested to practice these manipulations themselves, and when desired are putin regular attendance upon csses.

DISEASES OF THE EYE A JD EAR, AND THROAT.

SURGERY is systematically taught by lecture~, and is practically demonstratedby capital and minor operat'ons, in the amphitheatre, in the pre~ence of the class. These clinics are held twice each week, and afford more material of all forms ofsurgical disease than can I'e utilized.

In this department the students a.e taught and required themselves to applyall forms of bandages, together with every form of apparatus for treating fracturesand dislocations. These injuries must be treated by every physician, and there i&but this one way of acquiring the necessary knowl~dg. Before the close of thesession the students are afforded opportunity of performing all surgical operntionson the cadaver, under the direction of the Profe~sor of Surgery. We feel warrantedin saying that the efficient and untiring labor in this department is unsurpassed inany Medical College.

I DISEASES Of' TilE EYE AI'D EAR form an important and growing specialty, andis presided over by a gentlE:man who is thoroughly skilled in this dppat·tment ofmedicine. His clinics abound in material, and afford ample opportunity for be·coming familiar with the treatment of all diseases of these organs. Numberlessoperations are perf.rmed in the presence of the clnss. Each student is affordedopportnnity of instruction in all the latest methods of examining these organs,i Deluding the use of the ophthalmm:cope and otoscope.

The use of the laryngoscope will be taught, and will be practically exemplifiedin the study of Diseases of the Throat.

In addition to the spllcial clinics already mentioned, there are GENERAl. ~IED

leAL, CI.lXICS, at which students have opportunity of becoming familiar with thevarious types of disease. The advanced students have OppOl tunity of themselvesinvestigating disease, in order to confer facility and accuracy r.f diagnosis. Thosedesiring it are placed in charge of patients.

Thus it will be seen that G'lillical Jllcdicine is given that importance it so justlymerits. The city of Atlanta affords a rich harvest of mt terial for this purpose, anitbe Professors in charge have by unceasing efforts, made it pract;call.y available.
