Year 6 TEEC Excursion

In week 7, the year six students went to TEEC, to build up our leadership and

team-working skills. The first thing we did was an activity called ‘Leaky Pole’. We had to get a tennis ball out of the bottom of a

pipe with holes in it. The next activity included an extreme amount of teamwork

and limited resources. We had plastic barrels, timber logs, green tarps and ropes. We used all of this to make ourselves a raft

and we had to test if it would float. Some of us were successful and others, not so much. At the end of the day, we had a discussion

with Mr Nielsen about the five keys to success and how we can use them in our

everyday lives. The keys are organisation, getting along, confidence, persistence and resilience. The whole day was fun and we

had an epic experience. - Myla, Ashlee, Tanasyn, Isabel, Maddison &

COVID-19 Virus

MSS is open for business as usual. As a result of the COVID-19 virus, we have made the following adjustments:

1. Parades have been cancelled for the remainder of this term. 2. The musical will be cancelled.

3. All excursions will be postponed until term 2. 4. Cross Country is postponed at this stage (more info to come).

5. Increased signage encouraging active personal hygiene. Further information can be found in this week’s Principal’s

Report, in ‘News Pages’ on our website.

EMERGENCY LUNCHES Thank you to Brumby’s Bakery & Howe

Farming for donating bread and bananas for emergency lunches.

We appreciate your generosity.

Bikebus and Bike Skills Program

REQUEST FOR BIKES We are looking for small bikes (16inch & 20inch) that we can repair

and use for the grade 1-3 students’ bike skills program and the Bikebus rides. If you have one that is no longer in use and would

like to donate to the school, that would be fantastic! Please contact the school to organise a drop off or we can arrange pick up.

Thank you to the Muruku Art Group

We would like to thank the Muruku Art Group for their kind donation of books to our school. The Muruku Art Group

is a Community Development Programme of

Mossman Support Services. They

developed a set of books as part of a project to retrieve, maintain, preserve and protect the local Kuku Yalanji language, and to teach students about the language. We are very excited

to have these amazing books in our school.

Year 3 Shadows

This term, the year 3’s are learning about day and night and shadows. Students are learning about the rotation of the Earth and how the

position of the Sun changes the lengths of the shadows at different times of the day. 3J

started the day by working in pairs to record the length of their own shadow and then

comparing the lengths of their shadows at different times throughout the day.

P&C President & Vice President Needed The P&C AGM was held last night, and although we were able to fill a number of the executive positions, we

are desperately seeking parents/guardians for the roles of President and/or Vice President. We are also seek-ing volunteers to run our Uniform Shop each morning. If you are interested in either of these positions,

please contact Olivia Battistin or Carmel McFarlane on 4092 8100 to express your interest.
