16 Compound Word Puzzles CREDITS PREPARATION: Print these pages onto card, cut them to separate, then cut the puzzles into thirds along the black lines. Laminate if you wish and store in a small ziploc bag. HOW TO USE: Children look at each picture, say what they are then decide which 2 words go together to make the third compound word. For example, hot + dog = hotdog. They show their understanding by putting the 3-piece puzzles together. Just in case some pictures are misleading, the compound words I’ve used are: For page 2: jellyfish, treehouse, rainbow and football For page 3: butterfly, fireman, pancake and toothbrush For page 4: cowboy, cupcake, dragonfly and fingernails For page 5: strawberries, earring, fishbowl and hotdog EXTENSION: Ask kids to write the words as they complete each puzzle, or write a compound word and ask their friends to find the matching puzzle pieces. Children can write the correctly-spelled word on each puzzle piece. I hope your children enjoy using these cards. © Liz’s Early Learning Spot for Playdough to Plato
