LOCATION AND NEIGHBOURHOODWe love the serenity, peacefulness and beauty of the setting. We are surrounded by vast stretches of nature, going well beyond our own 10 acres of wooded property that blends seamlessly with adjacent Mount Work park. The views of our valley, the hills and Salt Spring Island in the distance are stunning. We never tire of watching the eagles glide and perch on our topmost branches, and listening to the songbirds in the trees and at the feeders. The tranquillity is not marred by airplane or traffic noise, and yet we are only 10 minutes away from the urban centres of Royal Oak, Broadmead, and the Commonwealth Pool and Library recreation complex, 15 minutes from Uptown Mall and Mayfair Mall, and 25 minutes from the Inner Harbour and Downtown Victoria. In the other direction, we are 10 minutes from the village of Brentwood Bay, Butchart Gardens and about 20 minutes from Sidney, the Airport and BC Ferries. And for quick trips, we are 5 minutes away from the Red Barn Market for fresh vegetables and other needs, and freshly baked bread at the corner bakery and coffee shop. The neighbourhood has a community atmosphere with Prospect Lake being a historically long-settled area. We love the ambience of the beautiful lake with its opportunities for fishing and boating, and there are many hiking, riding and walking trails, and a golf course nearby.

THE GROUNDSOur home is a sanctuary, with its total privacy. There is nothing more delightful than relaxing in the hot tub under the stars, then winding up the evening around the fire pit on the deck, listening to music and enjoying a glass of wine. The deck is an extension of the living room and we practically live out there many months of the year. The yard is easy care and professionally landscaped, with gravel instead of lawn and many mature shrubs and trees. We enjoy making jam from the abundance of the plum trees in the summer. Across the yard is another deck, big enough for large groups and intimate enough to just sit and enjoy the fragrance of the lavender coming from the herb garden. We call it our sensory garden.

THE RESIDENCEWe love the comfort and coziness of the home. In summer, the covered deck is a riot of colour with beautiful flower baskets. The roof of the deck lets us be out there rain or shine, and the many pot lights mean we can stay out as late as we like. In winter the house is so cosy, and family and friends love to come and share special times in front of the wood-burning fireplace. We love the spacious kitchen, where there is lots of room for two people to enjoy cooking together, and where guests can gather. We love to spend evenings in the media room/library, where the new gas fireplace ignites with the flick of a switch.

Upstairs, the master suite is a glamorous and inviting retreat. The newly renovated ensuite is large and luxurious, with its heated floors and towel rail, and a tub surrounded by windows so that you feel you are floating in the treetops. The other two bedrooms are large and interesting with window seats where you can curl up and read a book, and they share a beautiful bathroom, so guests love to come and stay.

Another flight of stairs leads to a cozy loft with infinite uses - we’ve used it for sewing, exercising, playroom, to name a few.
