the scoop NOVEMBER 14 2012 Soccer Tournament We had over a 100 of our pupils competing in the first Southern Zone soccer tournament. All our teams contributed to a great day. Well done to everyone involved in the way they participated and supported each other. We made the finals in the Y1&2 and Y3&4 grades and won the Y5&6 grade. A big thank you to Bex Murdoch who coordinated the teams and the organisation of this event from our end. I am sure that next year we will probably have even more participants from across all age groups. Staff Appointments Paula Stewart, who has been on maternity leave, has made the hard decision to resign from her position as a teacher at our school and stay on being a full time mum! This is something she has mulled over long and hard and she will be sorely missed around this place. Paula is a real team player who always put the needs of her students, her sports role and this school before herself. She contributed significantly to all facets of school life and we wish her all the best as she concentrates on family life with little Matt and her partner, Aaron. Karyn Duncan, who was appointed for Term’s 3 and 4 of this year as our Kauri 8 (Y5 & 6) teacher has had her contract extended for the 2013 school year. Karyn has made a great start to her time here as part of the Myross Bush team, she enjoys the strong collegial culture of our staff and the Myross Bush community. I thank her for her contribution so far to our team and we look forward to continuing working with her in the new year. Market Day Remember that next Monday is Market Day for our Year 6's. This will run from midday through to the end of school so if you can make it along to help them with their camp fundraising initiative that would be great. We have been pretty lucky with the weather at our recent school events so fingers crossed for Monday! 2013 Classes The teaching and management team are already beginning the planning for next year - the initiatives the school will continue to embed and strengthen and how we can best utilise the strengths of our staff around how we structure our learning groups for the new year. There will be more information on this as we work through the different elements of this so keep an eye out! Friends of the School Remember the FOS Wine & Cheese evening tonight at Blue River, cnr Nith and Teviot Streets, starting at 7.30 tonight. You can pay by cash or Eft-pos. Inquiries to 2304342. A big thank you to Bex Murdoch who coordinated the teams and the organisation of this event from our end. I am sure that next year we will probably have even more participants from across all age groups.

Staff AppointmentsPaula Stewart, who has been on maternity leave, has made the hard decision to resign from her position as a teacher at our school and stay on being a full time mum! This is something she has mulled over long and hard and she will be sorely missed around this place. Paula is a real team player who always put the needs of her students, her sports

role and this school before herself.

Market DayRemember that next Monday is Market Day for our Year 6's. This will run from midday through to the end of school so if you can make it along to help them with their camp fundraising initiative that would be great. We have been pretty

lucky with the weather at our recent school events so fingers crossed for Monday!

2013 ClassesThe teaching and management team are already beginning the planning for next year - the initiatives the school will continue to embed and strengthen and how we can best utilise the strengths of our staff around how we structure our learning groups for the new year. There will be more information on this as we work through the different elements of this so keep an eye out!

Glengarry Kindergarten: Open Day Friday 16th Nov 1.30-3.30pm. 116 Derwent Street. Come along and see our natural environment, meet the teachers and enrol your child.

Summer Swim & Dive School: Check out the posters in the admin notice board for all details. Ph 2177506 or [email protected] www.splashpalace.co.nz

The first ever Southern Zone Soccer Tournament was a huge hit with everyone and very successful for our school.

School News:Admin: We ask that for security reasons, ALL envelopes and notes to the office are put into the letter slot on the left hand end of the admin counter. This will help us keep track of items left with us. If you could remind your child to ‘post it’ it would be really appreciated. Money must be attached to a note or in an envelope/plastic bank bag so that we know what and who the payment is for. Thank you for your help with this.

Market Day Monday 19th Nov: This year's Market Day is a fundraising opportunity for the Year 6 Camp this term. The students will be setting a range of stalls including sherbet, slushies, pony rides and lots more! All school students are invited to bring some money to take part in the day and small change (gold coins) is appreciated to assist with floats at the stalls.

The school is invited to come to Market Day from 12pm and will continue till the end of school. This is wonderful community event and a great way for the younger students to support the Year 6s as they prepare for their big end of year event!

Camp Payments: Thank you to those who have paid their camp fees for this year. Here's a reminder that camp fees are due by the end of next week, 23rd Nov. Please see the office if you need to arrange payment beyond this date.

Production DVD’s: We’ve had 45 orders and they take around 40 minutes each so that’s a lot of minutes. These are being worked on by a staff member at home and will be another couple of weeks before we get them all ready for distribution.

Class Photos: Closing date for these is this Friday.

School Accounts: These will be issued this week with a due date for payment of Wednesday 5th December. Your help with this date for payment is really appreciated as we go into a busy end of year period in admin. Thank you. Please note: the account will show all transactions for 2012 and whether they have been paid or still outstanding. If you have any queries regarding your account, please contact Irene or Cristy at the office between 9am and 1.30pm.

Week 5 Term 4MANUKA welcome two new children to our team this week - Charlotte and Hadlee. We enjoyed getting to know them on their school visits and look forward to working and playing alongside them on their school journey. A reminder to ensure your child has a water bottle at school each day please and it would be a good time to check your child knows how to blow their nose, dispose of the tissues and wash their hands to try and keep on top of the runny noses! Thanks for your support. We are reading Fables in class at the moment and are enjoying discussing the morals or lessons they teach us. Today we discovered that it is good to stop and appreciate what we have instead of always looking at things we don't have.

Certificates: George and Ethan

KOWHAI What an awesome day some of us had at soccer on Monday. It was the very first time playing for some children and it was a great way to be introduced to the sport. "I was a great goalie" said Finn. The other children enjoyed their day with Mrs Forde and Manuka. We have been writing letters this week. It is great practice to write our neatest and make sure the reader of our letters understands our message. We are continuing with 'Keeping Ourselves Safe' and we have our last visit from Constable Marty tomorrow. Keep an eye out for some more homework activities and opportunities for discussions at your house!

RIMU Half the class went to a soccer tournament on Monday while the other half stayed behind and made planes following the technology process.• We had three games and I got a lollie - Angus. • I was trying to kick the ball into the goal - Poppy . • I liked when we beat Woodlands when they got 7 goals and we got 9 goals - Carter. • We got into the finals and I scored 1 goal - Gregor. • We got to make planes and we tested them and flew and we made modifications to make them go better. The balloons made them go slower - Lily. • I liked building my plane with Ethan - Logan Thornton. • We copied it off the computer and I made it with Matthew and it was fun - Ollie

Certificates Sacha Horton. and Lachie Riley

RATA On Monday we had a lovely day at the soccer tournament. The children were great sports and really enjoyed the games. This week in maths we are learning about weight and in writing we are writing thank you letters to a Pet Day judge.

We are sad to farewell Olivia McCartin and her family, who joined us for a short time from Southbridge, we said goodbye with a shared lunch today and wish you all the best for your future.

Certificates: Amber Gowers for being mature in her actions with others, Corbin Fraser for being a valuable member of your boat designing group contributing great ideas, Liam Roberts for making a great effort to move up the independent license.

KAURI • On Monday we headed to our soccer tournament, it was really hot and fun. We couldn't have had such a great day without the helpers for the teams. They were the teachers, Mr Lovelock and friends of the school and staff. Campbell• I was in team 10 and we won all of our games! We won the final, it was 2-0. Ethan • We lost all our games but we had a great day. We got free hot dogs and chips too! Blake• I'm getting so excited about camp at Borland Lodge and market day! Im making yummy food and hair clips for my stall. Jaimee

MATAIThis week we're starting to build the designs for our passion projects. You can see our sketches and explanations of what we're building on our class blog. It's getting very exciting.
