SHARE YOUR SUMMER WITH US!

We want to see the places your family attends Mass this summer. Email a picture of you and your family to [email protected]. Include where it was and something amazing you experienced at that parish. They will be posted online and in the bulletin as space allows.

Remember, when planning your family vacation, it is important to plan at which church you will attend Mass.

It can be a fun family tradition to keep a photo album of the different church-es you visit over the years. Capture the beauty you experience in your pictures. As a family you can journal about the interesting similarities and differences you experience at the various parishes.

To find Mass locations, visit the website discovermass.com or click on the Discover Mass button on the My-Parish App. Through the app you can also keep up on St. Ann parish hap-penings while you are away. You can find the bulletin, daily readings, parish announcements and more. Search for MYPARISH in the App Store or Google Play or Text App to 88202.

YOU CAN STILL VIEW A LIVESTREAM OF DAILY MASS WITH FR. JAMES!

Each morning Father James will offer Mass at 9:00 am through Facebook Live. You can find it on the St. Ann website at stannaugusta.org or view it directly on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SaintAnnChurch. It is also recorded so you can view it at a later date!

Dear friends of St. Ann,

This weekend our parish celebrates one of the events that is often one of the brightest points of the year. A num-ber of the children of our parish will make their First Holy Com-munion this weekend. Because of the limits on the number of people in the church at once, the First Commun-ions will be spread out through the Saturday anticipated Mass and Sun-day Masses. This is a good oppor-

tunity to remember your own First Holy Communion. Were you excited, nervous, proud? What family tradi-tions do you remember at your First Communion? A special breakfast or lunch? A special gift? A new rosary; investiture with the scapular? Did you wear special clothes or join in special processions or liturgies in your First Communion year? In all these ways, we recognize just how special this day is for those who receive Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion. What will you do now to renew that joy and awe in His presence?

Rev. James Richardson

The parishioners of St. Ann Catholic Church want to congratulate all of our

SAINT VINCENT de PAUL NEEDS A message from Mary Flemming

Our food pantry is full up right now. Thank you so much for all your generous donations! What we really need right now are people to serve through our ministry. If you or anyone you know needs food, call 269·389·0370 and leave a message. Someone will get back to them and set up an appointment for curbside pick-up the next day. The food pantry is open Monday-Friday.

Evictions and shut-offs resume when the Governor’s Emergency Order ends (currently June 30th). We are expecting lots of people to start calling. A special thank you to all who donated money in anticipation of this. As always, we keep all our benefactors in prayer.

Again, on behalf of our neighbors in need, thank you and God bless you and your families!

SVDP Sponsored Racial Wealth Gap Simulation

In order to learn more about systemic racism in Ameri-can society, the St. Ann conference of the Society of the St. Vincent de Paul Au-gusta, Michigan is hosting a Racial Wealth-Gap Simulation. During this simula-tion, we will see how American laws in place over the last 200 years have created a system that bene-fits one race more than another and created food insecurity for African Americans. At St Vincent de Paul, we see this lived out in the people we serve.

We invite anyone who is interested in learning more about these issues to join us via Skype. This simula-tion will be facilitated by St. Ann parishioner and SVdP Voice of the Poor leader Bobby Kinkela.

THURS I June 25 I 7:00 P.M. Register to join at https://tinyurl.com/y9numvdx

ST. ANN WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS TO THE CATHOLIC FAITH A message from Pat Vanderpool

On Sunday, June 14, St. Ann parish was very blessed to welcome those who had been preparing through the RCIA process into the fullness of our faith. Please greet all these newcomers at Mass when you see them and make them feel welcome to our St. Ann parish family. This joyful celebration should also serve as a reminder that an important function of our parish, and of each one of us individually, is to draw others to Jesus in the Church. If you know anyone who is searching in his/her spiritual life or has asked questions about the Catholic faith, please contact Pat Vanderpool at 269•967•7493 or give Pat that person’s contact information and she would be pleased to reach out to see if we can support that individual in coming to know Jesus through the Catholic Church.

Christina LaViolette was baptized. She was sponsored by a friend from Battle Creek, Andrea Perry.

Ken Shorter, was also baptized and was sponsored by Dan Kaczanowski.

If you would like to learn more about the Rite of Christian Initiation, you can find information on the St. Ann website at stannaugusta.org/becoming-roman-catholic-rcia or you can read more on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ website at www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/who-we-teach/rite-of-christian-initiation-of-adults. If you are interested in talking to someone about Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Holy Matrimony, becoming Catholic (RCIA), religious

education for children, or Adult Faith formation, contact Pat Vanderpool at [email protected] or 269•731•0295.

WHAT IS RCIA?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is an ongoing process of inquiry, discovery, and prayer that helps one discern the voice of God.

RCIA is for those adults seeking full communion in the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism Confirmation and Eucharist. The individual soul

• is immersed into the waters of New Life

• becomes anointed with the gift of the Holy Spirit

• joins the assembly at the Eucharistic Table

Each conversion journey is unique so the RCIA is considered very much a process and not a program. While classes are prepared and presented in a way to completely, systematical-ly, and cohesively share the doctrines of the faith an individual soul will receive, accept, and adhere to Church teachings as their personal conversion journey permits. Participation in the RCIA process is one of the most joyful and exciting aspects of the catechetical process offered through the Church. All are welcome and invited to participate. Contact Pat Vanderpool at 269•967•7493

Dan Gonzales, who was sponsored by Mike Marino, made a profession of faith and was

welcomed into full communion.

Also making a profession of faith and being welcomed into full communion, was Derek Alton. He was

sponsored by Robert Hynes. Also celebrating was Molly Alton, Derek’s wife, who was Confirmed and

sponsored by her mother, Regina Hynes.

Left: Tonya Downs, who was sponsored by Melon Lasich, made a profession of faith and was welcomed into full communion. Selah Balkema, Tonya’s granddaughter and our youngest participant, made a profession of faith and received her First Holy Communion.

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION

Holy Communion will be distributed only under the Species of the Sacred Host. You may receive either on the tongue or in the hand. Please remove any masks and gloves as you approach the minister.

Pause at the mark on the floor, the reverence and the verbal exchange should take place 6 feet away: Bow – “The Body of Christ” – “Amen” – then step forward to receive.

If you receive in the hand, please approach the priest (or deacon or EMHC), place your right hand under your left hand creating a sort of throne upon which to receive the Lord. After receiving Jesus in your hand, step to the side, and place the Sacred Host gently in your mouth, making sure to consume the Sacred Host before stepping away. Then, simply replace your mask and return prayerfully to your seat.

If you choose to receive on the tongue please remove your mask before approaching. Bow slightly or kneel as the priest or minister elevates the Sacred Host and says “The Body of Christ.” Respond “Amen.” Then extend your tongue so that the tip of your tongue is past your bottom lip and hold it steadily there as the Sacred Host is placed on your tongue. If done while not moving one’s head or tongue while receiving, the risk of direct contact is minimized. In addition to the reverence given, kneeling also presents a more ad-vantageous angle for the priest or minister to place the Sacred Host on your tongue without contact. After receiving, replace your mask and return prayerfully to your pew.
