1. Introduction

We thank you for the purchase of HAL-2 beacon which, we hope, will give you satisfaction in all your applications.

Before going into the programming of the beacon it is mandatory to know two French words :

- “OUI” for “Yes” - “NON” for “No”.

Now that you are French fluent, you can start programming the ARGOS beacon.

2. Precaution of Use

Before programming the beacon be sure that:

- You have the right RS232 cable (see §5) - Your ID Address is in HEXADECIMAL - You have a recent version of HyperTerminal. If not, we invite you to download one at the

following address: http://www.hilgraeve.com/htpe/download.html - The HyperTerminal serial interface is correctly set-up (See §6)

5. RS-232 and Supply Cable for HAL2

HAL2 : two miniature connectors.

Power Connector The 5-pin connector allows for power supply and ON/OFF command of the beacon.

Pin 1 +VCC positive power supply (from 6.5 to 14V) Pin 2 +VCC positive power supply (from 6.5 to 14V) Pin 3 OFF HAL HAL ON/OFF command Pin 4 GND 0Volt negative power supply return line Pin 5 GND 0Volt negative power supply return line

The beacon's 5-pin connector is a MOLEX ref. 53048-0510 ; the mating female jack is ref. 51021-0500 fitted with 50079-8 contacts

The HAL2 shall be powered from a voltage ranging from 7 to 14V, the power source shall be capable of supplying a maximum current of 1 Ampere, shall feature a minimum internal impedance (< 0.3 Ohms), and shall not generate disturbing frequencies.

If the distance exceeds 50 cm, then wire section shall be greater than 0.6 mm

mm².

Warning

Pins 1 & 2 shall be connected together to the positive terminal of the power supply.

Pins 4 & 5 shall be connected together to the negative terminal of the power supply.

Caution : The electrical 0 Volt (pins 4 & 5) is linked to the mechanical ground of the case.

Pin 3 OFF HAL shall be either left unconnected (HAL ON) or connected to 0 Volt (HAL OFF).

The standard interface operates by means of an open collector transistor. Pin 3 is fed to the positive polarity of the supply by means of a 1 MOhm internal resistor.
