Good Practice MethodsBuilding UX expertise within the library community is important to make the most of new paradigms and platforms in UK HE library and learning community. This demands a wider understanding of methods.

Community of PracticeBuilding UX expertise would be facilitated through an informal community of practice. There may be common ground with learning technologists, who are engaged in ALT.

Out the clunkers Some concepts have been promoted under Web 2.0 / Library 2.0 but have little leverage with users. Social tagging has been highlighted as a possible example.

Face up to FacebookAs indicated in the Leeds Met project, Facebook is significant in shaping user experience. The JISC Personalisation projects review called it ‘the elephant in the room’.

LMS &VLEsLibraries need to understand options for LMS / VLE / VRE integration more fully. The Edinburgh Enclave project followed this line of investigation. The starting point may be an articulation the related landscape.

Linked dataIt is likely that new applications will require datasets that link the learner, the VLE and the library through organization, course and module / unit references. The activity data programme (Call 1510) is likely to raise this issue.

Positioning mobileA number of projects demonstrated ideas for mobile applications involving library data. There is now a requirement to move from can do ideas to strategic approaches, involving more than just library data.

OSS Systems KnowledgeThe ongoing dissemination of user feedback and implementation experience is crucial around OSS systems – notably VuFind, Evergreen and Blacklightwhich have been covered in the LMS programme.
