A Ford Territory is making all the wrong noises for one vehicle owner
lieve it’s an incorrectmanufacturing tolerance. What do you think?
Alan Driscoll, email.A: By all means take it up
with Holden. If that’s thecause of your rattle it shouldbe fixed under warranty.
Q: I have a problem withthe radio reception in mynew Hyundai Elantra. Ihave terrible reception
when listening to the localradio; I’ve even had a prob-lem listening to 2GB in ametro area. The problem isso annoying that I askedfor it to be checked when Iput it in for a service. Theysaid they couldn’t hear theproblem, but they were lo-cated just across the roadfrom where the radio isbroadcast. They also said
that they didn’t thinkthere was anything I coulddo about it since the aerialis in the glass. Dissatisfied,I contacted Hyundai iCare,to which I have had no re-ply in the last 3 months. Doyou have any suggestions?
Tracey, email.A: Phone Hyundai and ex-
plain your problem to one ofthe customer assistance peo-
ple. Radio reception doesseem to be a problem withHyundais, we have had quitea few owners reporting poorreception. To fix it I would re-commend taking it to a radiospecialist and perhaps have anew antenna fitted.
Q: You might recall I con-tacted you about my 2012Ford Focus and the prob-lems I was having with the
DSG automatic gearbox.Well, I took my complaintsto Consumer Protectionand they agreed with myconcerns. Now Ford hasauthorised the replace-ment of my car with a newdiesel model, which I amtold has a new clutch. Ittook 17 weeks to resolvethe issue, but I am happywith the outcome.
Lee-Ann Woods, email.A: It’s good to hear that you
have been able to come to asatisfactory resolution withFord over the issue, and thatthe consumer protection sys-tem works.
Q: On a trip to Queens-land in October 2011 I no-ticed a knocking noisewhile driving my 2011 SYFord Territory uphill un-der load. I reported this atthe 15,000km service, butthe dealer was unable todetect any problems. Be-fore the next service theengine developed a pingingnoise under light throttleat low speed, and thedealer suggested I use95-octane fuel instead ofthe recommended 91. Ihave now been using95-octane fuel since the30,000km service with nonoticeable change. Thedealer also suggested usingan additive to remove car-bon build-up on the pistonsas this could be a cause, butI doubt that carbon couldbuild up in such a shorttime on a new vehicle tocause this problem. I askedthe dealer if he could checkthe crank angle sensor, buthe did not agree that it wasa possible cause. I am con-cerned that engine damagecould have occurred. Hopeyou may be able to help.
Neil W. Deed, email.A: It sounds like it might be
a sensor and checking thecrank angle sensor was sen-sible. I would also check theknock sensor, which is thereto detect detonation and re-tard the ignition enough toprevent it from happening.
