Dear Parents and Carers, Yesterday was the feast of St Ignatius of Loyola. Ignatius was born in the Basque country of northern Spain in the 16 th cen- tury and after experiencing a personal conversion following a serious battle injury he wrote an important work, The Spiritual Exercises, still used to guide personal spiritual growth today. Ignatius was a cofounder of the Jesuits, an order of priests. Ignatius developed a simple process for reflecting on one’s life each day to consider God’s presence. We sometimes use this prayer, the Examen, with our students. It is a short, simple way of taking a few moments at the end of the day to stop and take stock. 1. Become aware of God’s presence. 2. Review the day with gratitude. 3. Pay attention to your emotions. 4. Choose one feature of the day and pray from it. 5. Look toward tomorrow. Disco Thanks The Stage 2 parents have been very busy in recent weeks preparing for tomorrow night’s Disco. Thank you to all who have been engaged in the planning, to those who will help decorate the hall, assist with sales on the night and help pack up. The Disco is a highlight of the annual calendar for our children and I know they are looking forward to it. Please be aware that children should not attend without a parent or adult accompanying them. Parents are asked to assist with supervision and invited to take the opportunity to meet others. Times are as follows: Kinder to Year 2 - 5:00-6:30pm Years 3 to 6 - 6:00-7:30pm Mary MacKillop Feast Please join us on Monday to celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross. The outline of the morning’s celebration is as fol- lows: 9:30 School Mass at the church 10:45 Shared morning tea at the school with the children 11:15 Walk to Tallow Beach – sand modelling activity 12:00 Arrive back at school, ice block, return to class The walk to the beach occurs along a well-kept track that begins on the northern side of the high school. The walk takes about 7-10 minutes and brings us out where Tallow Creek meets the beach. This is the same track we have used many times for the school cross country event. If you do not give consent for your child to take part in the walk and beach activity please contact your child’s teacher in writing. Dear Parents and Carers,

tury and after experiencing a personal conversion following a serious battle injury he wrote an important work, The Spiritual Exercises, still used to guide personal spiritual growth today. First Holy Communion Program Those students enrolled in the First Holy Communion program partic-ipated in the first lesson on Friday afternoon. Our focus was to iden-tify how Jesus is with us. We looked at days of celebration in family and in Church and the students thoughtfully responded to the scrip-ture story of Jesus welcoming children. I congratulate the students on their participation and I look forward to the continued program pre-paring the children for the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Stage Masses Stage 2 celebrated mass on Friday morning. It was lovely to share this occasion with those parents, family members and parishioners who were able to join us. In class we have been looking at how the Church honours special women with feast days and prayers. Fr. Da-vid spoke with us about significant women who are models of faith and courage and how they live their faith in God. We received many compliments after mass on the beautiful singing of the children and this, along with the students’ reverent participation throughout the mass, added to a special celebration. As always you are most welcome to join us for the following Stage Masses:

Kindergarten Friday 26th August 9:30 at St. Finbarr’s Church, Byron Bay. Stage 3 Friday 9th September 9:30 at St. Finbarr’s Church, Byron Bay.

Whole School Masses As a School/Parish community we look forward to celebrating togeth-er the significant occasions of the Feast of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop on Monday 8th August and the Assumption on Monday 15th August. Again, the masses will be at 9:30am at St. Finbarr’s Church, we look forward to seeing you there. John Burland Live in Concert Our school is fortunate to have singer John Burland performing on Thursday 25th August at 1:45pm in our school hall. Students will be immersed in a joyful and prayerful celebration of our Catholic faith. Parents, younger siblings and parishioners are also invited to attend the live concert. Alter Servers This weekend 6th August - Olivia Hosie, Suriana Mamone & Anastacia Bleakley. Students, thank you for altar serving at the 6pm St Finbarr’s mass. Your dedication is greatly appreciated by the parish community. Please arrive by 5:45. You will sign on and robe in the Reconciliation Room at the back of the church. If you are unavailable, please try to replace yourself with another Altar Server during the week. If you are unable to swap or organise another server, please call the parish of-fice on 6685 6260 (and leave a message if phone is unattended). WANTED! Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, Writers, Photographers, Artists, Ideas People! The Council of Catholic Schools Parent Assembly is seeking nominations for the annual Roger O'Sullivan award. The award is for the school who can demonstrate exemplary practice in building bridges between families and the school, that results in enhanced learning, improved faith develop-ment or greater well being. Examples of past nominations are: •art projects •achieving specified academic targets •website creation Last year's winning nomination was given to St Brigid 's Primary in Kyogle. Their submission was a 10 page retro-spective account of what they had done during the previous year - Building Pre-School connections, building rela-tionships with the men in the school, welcoming new families and more. We would like to lodge a submission this year- at the same time we need to be able to showcase the wonderful things we are doing as a school community, how we engage parents, and how it is providing a positive impact on students. Please email us with what do you think we are doing well, ideas you have that we could bring to life - it will be so much appreciated. We would love to hear from new families! Please contact Annie on 0419280461, or email at [email protected] We only have until end of term.
