Step 1: Pump the samplethrough the MEPS BIN (oneor more volumes may betaken).
Step 2: Wash the MEPSBIN once by pumping 20 Lto 50 L of wash solutionthrough the BIN to removeinterferences.
Step 3: Elute the analyte by
drawing solvent through theBIN into the syringe barrel.
Step 4: Inject the analytedirectly into the injector.
Pump 50 L solvent followedby 50 L wash solution toprepare BIN for the nextsample.
MEPS Is Reusable
Like conventional SPE, the number of timesthe cartridge can be reused is dependenton the sample matrix and the cleaning
regime between elutions. Since only 3mg ofstationary phase is used in MEPS it can be
washed effectively between each extractionwithout the need for large solvent volumes.For simple applications, MEPSdevices have
been used successfully for up to 50 cyclesmaking it very cost effective.
Semi-automation of MEPScan be achieved
by coupling MEPS syringes to SGEs eVol
automated analytical syringe to speed uprepetitive SPE and is ideal for rapid method
development.

autosamplers such as the CTC PAL for on-line SPE and injection.
