illegal – under the Fraud Act 2006 possessing or

having under your control any article for use in, or

in connection with any fraud, for example,

possession of computer files that could launch a

'phishing' attack carries a maximum sentence of 5

years imprisonment.

Under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act

2006, it could also be looked as financial or

material abuse, which includes theft, fraud,

exploitation, or pressure in connection with the

misuse or misappropriation of, property,

possessions or benefits where it relates to a

vulnerable adult.

Is it illegal or unsuitable?

unsuitable - as at present there is nothing to

suggest that there is any intention to commit an

illegal act or intention of sexual grooming.

Questions might be asked why a 32 year old man

may be pretending to be 15 years old and would

require monitoring.

Encouraging the child to discuss any concerns they

might have with you or pointing out they can

access the CEOP report abuse button if they start

to feel uncomfortable, would be a way of helping

to make their use of the internet safer.
