SURAH AL-INSAN (THE MAN)

MEDINAN PERIOD

Division: 598

1Has not come upon man a time span/a term of billions of years since he was nothing to mention about? Indeed, it has!

2,3Surely, We created man from a drop of seminal mixture. We will wear him down/assign him liabilities. Therefore, We made him superior in hearing and sight; informed him sending upon him the knowledge to distinguish the evil and the good. Surely, We guided him to the path, whether he be grateful or ungrateful for the blessings he is given.

4Surely, We have prepared chains, leashes and a blazing fire for the infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].

5-22Surely, “the good men” drink from a bowl containing Camphor, from a spring gushing out drinking from which servants of Allah who give away their food to the poor and the orphan and the slave for the love of Allah/even though they favor it, saying: “We feed you for the sake of Allah only and we demand from you nothing in return or gratitude; and yes, we fear our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] on an austere and morose day”.

And Allah protects them from the evil of that day; He will give upon them light and happiness, He will bestow upon them Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] and silken garments; they shall abide there reclining on thrones; they shall not see there the sun nor freezing cold and they shall be in shadows of the hanging gardens, hanging low. And a silver chalice and crystal bowls will be circulated around them, -their crystals which they will measure as they wish is made of silver-. And they shall drink from a bowl mixture of which is of ginger, from a spring there called Salsabil… And wandering among them will young boys of everlasting youth; when you see them you will think they are scattered pearls! When you see there, you will see happiness and a great dominion and governing; those who abide there will be wearing fine green silken and glossy satin garments; they shall be adorned with silver bracelets; their Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will make them drink a pure drink. Surely, this is your recompense. And your deeds are worth recompensing.

23Surely, It is Us who have revealed to him the Qur’an continuously.

24-26Then, have patience for the judgment of your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Do not follow the sinners among them or the ungrateful and always remember the name of your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Prostrate and submit to Him in a part of the night. And exonerate Him from all deficiencies during the night.

“27Those who say: “You are not the messenger” favor this transitory world and oversee a grave day.

28It is Us Who created them. We made their bodies strong. And We surely can replace them with their likes.

29Surely, this is an admonition. And whoever wishes so can follow the righteous path towards his Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].

30,31And you cannot will unless Allah wills. Surely, Allah is the Most Knowing, the Best Law-Maker, and He admits whomever He pleases into His mercy. And He has prepared a painful punishment for the infidels; those who consciously deny His Divinity and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer].
