Band 6 Community Neurology plus Voice and Dysfluency Speech and Language Therapist (Adult Service)Full time: 37.5 hours (part time considered). Based in Leicester.An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 SLT to join our team working with a mixed caseload of community neurology an adult voice and dysfluency.

We are a friendly, dynamic team of 50 SLTs and assistants, with a dedicated administration team who support us to provide a high quality service to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Leicester is a vibrant and culturally diverse city.

Our Speech and Language Therapy Service is county-wide, and led by a SLT manager. We provide care in community clinics and hospitals, acute hospitals and older person’s mental health units. We have clinical specialists in voice and dysfluency, neurology, brain injury, stroke, head and neck cancer, dementia and critical care. We offer an excellent support network and are committed to clinical supervision and continued professional development. We have regular whole team and specific team meetings and provide in-service training.

For two days you would work as part of the Voice Team in the city of Leicester which is an innovative and supportive team, led by a Clinical Lead in voice and dysfluency with quarterly team meetings focused on CPD. Therapy takes place within a community setting and with our ethos of patient centred care these take place in the county and city. We have good links with our ENT colleagues including a Combined Voice Clinic. Dysfluency clients are seen both in community clinics and in evening groups.

Experience in voice & dysfluency is desirable. However, an interest and willingness to develop in this area would be considered.

For three days you would be working with people with a range of acquired communication and swallowing difficulties (e.g. stroke, progressive neurological disorders and dementia) in the City or South of the county alongside other SLT’s. You would work in outpatient clinics, care homes and people’s own homes. You will have the opportunity to take part in treatment groups and training to care homes. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who enjoys the demands of community work, with proven time management and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. You must be competent in dysphagia management, and have evidence of completion of dysphagia competencies. You would be joining a team that is flexible and adaptable. Our team is open to new ideas and to trialing new ways of working.

However, we are a Countywide Service, the post holder will also be required to work within clinical locations, attend meetings as appropriate etc across the county of Leicestershire.

The role requires the clinical services assistant to prepare clinics at the beginning, during and end of surgery times and to maintain stock levels.

It involves assisting in the diabetic foot emergency fast access clinics with data management, including inputting onto the patients electronic records, faxing and booking of appointments, to fetch patients to and from the waiting areas and assist with their hosiery and shoes if required and apply dressing prescribed by the podiatrist.

The role also includes assisting and providing support to Podiatrists during minor surgery sessions, monitoring and reporting to the podiatrist throughout the surgery and at times in assisting in general podiatry clinics.

It is important that you are able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. No previous qualifications are essential but NHS / clinical experience would be desirable. You will also need to be comfortable with IT as we are fully electronic with regards our records and booking etc.

Whilst working on the ward you will be expected to work shifts cover 7 days a week including early, late and night.

The crisis service consist of multi-disciplinary team that include Nurses, Health Care Support Workers and Consultant psychiatrist. Our multi-disciplinary team offers two approaches to care delivery, namely, home treatment and Crisis Care.

You will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of evidence based home treatment. You will both deliver this personally and coordinate the delivery of care by a team of health care support worker. Whilst working in the crisis team you will be expected to work shifts cover 7 days a week including early and late shifts.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health expertise and experience is desirable, but NOT essential as we recognise that expertise and experience in adult mental health is easily transferable. In addition we offer opportunities to enhance your existing skills and learn new ones.

The Community Immunisation Service delivers vaccinations to children throughout Leicester City, Leicestershire County and Rutland.

The Service has full and part time opportunities for Administrative Assistants to work alongside our immunisation nurses who deliver vaccinations in schools, GP surgeries and patient homes.These vacancies are on annualised contracts and may be of particular interest to individuals who want to work predominantly during school term times, although you must still be available to cover some shifts during school holidays.The role is partially office-based, but will also require you to drive either your own vehicle or the Trust’s van (Peugeot Partner or equivalent size) for business purposes and to hold a full driving licence that allows driving of manual vehicles. Due to the nature of work all successful applicants will also require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

You will be based at Bridge Park Plaza, Thurmaston, but will be required to travel throughout the area and pack and transport vaccines and equipment required by the team (maximum weight 10kg). At the schools, GP surgeries and patient homes, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to the immunisation nurses, ensuring that all vaccinations are accurately recorded in electronic format and that associated paperwork is available and handled confidentially and stored securely Strong IT skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children, school staff, nursing and administrative colleagues is essential.

You will work as part of a large, busy team and work will be allocated using a roster, based on the needs of the service. The service operates between 7am until 5pm, Monday to Friday and also some Saturdays (8am until 2pm during October, November and December each year.) We welcome applicants who are able to work part-time hours, however, this service requires staff who are able to work from 7am until 5pm at least two days per week.(Full time vacancies are 7am until 5pm four days per week.)
