Purpose of the Job

The person will have responsibility for managing the production of panel and project/transactional tenders to clients. The will work closely with the Departmental Heads the Client Partners / Sector Heads leading the opportunity, advising on bid best practice at all stages. They will co-ordinate the firm during the process and have full project management oversight to deliver the bid on time.

The Bids Manager will receive support from a Bids Executive, freeing up time to focus on bid strategy, messaging, structure and overall content direction to create impactful bids that address the clients' requirements.

As well as supporting live opportunities, the Bids Manager will be involved in projects to drive best practice and continually improve the materials available to the firm for bids.

Main relationships

Responsible to: Initially the Director of Marketing & Business Development, in the longer term the Head of Sectors and Client Development

Responsible for: Bids Executive

Liaison with: Other colleagues within the Marketing & Business Development function, Client Relationship Partners, Sector Leaders, Head of Departments, Support teams: Finance and the MI function and IT.

Main duties:

Firm wide panel (relationship) bids:

• Taking full responsibility for managing panel bids at ITT (or equivalent) stage.• Work with the Relevant Partners (Sector Heads / Head of Departments) to gain an

understanding of the sector strategy.• Undertaking opportunity analysis – is this viable / is the bid in line with firm and sector

strategy.• Organising bid kick-off meeting.• Allocating stakeholder responsibilities.• Collating scoping questions and being involved in the scoping call/meeting.• Project managing the entire process to deliver the bid.• Providing strategic advice and coaching Partners around understanding clients'

requirements.• Editing content to create a 'one voice' message.• Allocating tasks to the Bids Executive to allow better use of the Bids Manager's time.• Briefing Bids Executive (and/or external provider) on design / creative aspects.• Managing firm wide panel presentations (either in lieu of a tender or once a tender

has been submitted).• Organising initial strategy / planning meetings.• Providing strategic advice.• Organising presentation rehearsals.• Coaching the presentation team.• Providing rehearsal feedback.• Working with Bids Executive to produce presentation material and devise creative

content.• Coaching and mentoring Bids Executives.• Complete client debriefs to identify learning points and feedback to the firm.

Other projects:

• Involvement in internal projects to improve bid information flow, analysis and best practice within the firm, including the creation and management of a bid library and statistics bank.

Person Specification:

• Strong experience of managing bids and providing advice on approach and strategy (ideally 4 years or more in a bidding role).

• Coaching presentation teams / playing the client (or delivering internal training / coaching sessions within another environment).

• Writing and editing copy for client facing documents.

• Demonstrable experience of the selling process, including advising on competitive bids.

• Legal or other professional services sector experience preferred.
