Students who scored below a 70% on the test, please tell your family that I will be holding mandatory tutoring to review the test with you and help you make corrections MONDAY, Nov. 2nd

Using your corrections and study guide, you can study for a test retake that I will give during advisory on Thursday, Nov. 5th. On this day, please plan to come to my room, not your advisory, to take the retake (I will email your advisors to let them know you will be with me). are going to engage in a role play where different Americans discuss and debate what they want their new government to look like!

Once you’ve moved to sit with your assigned group, place your name tent up!

Think about which other groups you might be able to ally with—which groups might share your interests? Each person will have one vote in the Constitutional Convention—the majority

will decide what will be written in our new plan of government! Every vote counts

Choose 2 people in your group to be traveling negotiators. These two negotiators will speak to other groups by traveling around the room. The other people in the group should remain seated so that they can talk to the negotiators that come to their table from other groups. When other traveling negotiators come to you, be prepared to discuss a

possible alliance! Write down which groups will be your allies. Jot down how you will vote on the

issues that they care about so that the will support your issues in return!

discuss with your team. Agree upon which groups you want to be your allies.

Look back at your resolutions. You might want to rewrite some of your resolutions based on the alliances that you formed. Remember—if you support an issue that your ally cares

about, they are more likely to support the issues that matter to you!

of the resolutions! To earn full credit for participation, be prepared to speak about at least ONE issue for your group. To prepare, use the provided large index card to record key

arguments you will make about each issue. Be sure that everyone in your group speaks about at least 1 issue. Be sure that all issues are addressed by someone in your group!

Make a Motion: when it is time to discuss an issue, you may begin

the discussion by saying “Be it resolved that…” For Example:

Someone needs to second the motion: “I second the motion.” Now this issue is the only issue that may be discussed. The class may not discuss a different issue until this issue is resolved.

Point of Information: if at any time you have a question, are confused, or want to bring something up, raise your hand and say “Point of Information.” Your question cannot interrupt anyone, but must be answered before others can speak about the issue.

Point of Order: if you think that someone is speaking out of turn

or is not speaking about the issue (for example, if this issue is slavery but someone tries to talk about who gets to vote in elections, you may raise your hand and call out “Point of Order!”) You CAN interrupt another speaker when you call point of order.

Call the question: If you think the discussion has gone on long enough, you may move to cut off the debate by raising your hand and when called on, you say “I call the question.” This does not need a second and is not debatable. The group takes an immediate vote on whether to stop debating. If a majority of people vote to stop debating, then we all vote on the issue and resolve it.
